Re: Parents of school children....please read...

I beleave it is the parents job, duty or responsibilty to determine if the child goes on the field trip. I beleave the parent should back up the teacher and not blame the teacher. Why is the parent not upset that the child is not doing the work? As a parent of two children (9 & 5), we "discuss" decision making and making good or wise decisions. This morning, my 5 year old son made bad decisions and was not rewarded but punished. Ultimately it is up to the parent.

I agree with the majority. When I was in school if you didn't behave or do your work the couple weeks before a field trip, you weren't allowed to go. They always told us going on a field trip was a privilege and not a requirement.

sometimes things seem drasctic and harsh but they're totally needed. My son is 8 and every friday they have a "fun day" watch a movie, have popcorn, tell jokes and stories, whatever. They do it the second half of the day. if all your weeks homework isn't done then you get to sit there and do it while you your classmates have fun instead of you. At first this really bothered me bc my son takes things very personal and i was worried it would have a negative effect on him. It did'nt. it only took one time of not having his work done to whip him into shape and he took it upon himself to make sure he did get it done. I did'nt have to say a word.

to answer your question ( speaking for cali only) the teacher is in chrge of her classroom and what goes on in it. His/her rules, his/her way. Thats what parent teacher conferences are for. As a parent you have the right to question and to have meetings over what concerns you have. Then it up to the principal to order whatever changes that have to be made.

Yeah, Teacher was trying to motivate the kid and warn the folks at the same time or give em a heads up.

I do think the teachers these days suck ass though and are very lazy. My kid is 8 years old and the teacher wants a class of fungus that just sits there like mold and become robots to her. Every child in her class with a personality received papers to see the shrink for possible ADHD symptoms. Are you telling me a third of the entire 3rd grade class has it? No way jose, this fat ass teacher (and she is)doesn't want to change her teaching style to what may help other children so she wants 1/3rd of the class on drugs. These lazy ass union teachers these days want way to much money for little effort. Shit, give me 2 months vacay every year.
As a coach and leader and teacher and motivator it is your duty to adapt your style to get the most out of every player/student. Nowadays, it's, drug the kid so they are mold and teach the others. I went toe to toe with the teacher in front of the Principal and shrink and she had to back off in tears because she was wrong.

            Convo Below.

Let me see miss lard ass. does my child disrupt class? "no he is wonderful" O.K., does he get all A's B's and an occasional C miss lard ass? "yes, but he squirms in his seat sometimes" Yes miss lard ass, so did I as a child and I was valadictorian miss lard ass.

Mr. Shrink, are these signs of and adhd kid? "No". Then why are we here?
"Because your teacher is a fat lazy union lardass that thinks she deserves way more than she is getting paid and wants a bunch of fungus to teach."

NOW THAT SUX! I HAD A SIMALIR PROB. IN FLA. I WENT AS FAR AS TAKING MY OLDEST TO GET TESTED AND THEY PUT HIM ON RITALIN, WHICH I WAS HIGHLY AGAINST...AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS OF NOT GIVING IT TO HIM, I STARTED RECIEVING NOTES ABOUT HOW WELL HE WAS DOING NOW, AND HOW GREAT HIS ATTITUDE WAS. AFTER THE YEAR WAS OVER, I INFORMED THE TEACHER, PRINCIPLE, SCHOOL BOARD AND THE PTA, THAT I HAD NOT BEEN GIVING HIM THE MEDICATION, AND INCLUDED A PIC OF THE PILLS SPILLED OUT ON THE KITCHEN TABLE WITH THE EMPTY PRESCRIPTION BOTTLES....FUNNY HOW I NEVER HEARD A THING ABOUT HIS NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR AGAIN...HUH. (OH, AND THE RITALIN DOSE WAS, LIKE .05 OR SOMETHING STUPID LIKE THAT!!)
HE WHO MAKES A BEAST OF HIMSELF, GET'S RID OF THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN!!

the way i see it is a field trip is a privilege and if the work asigned is not being completed then it should be at the teacher's discresion to allow the student to go. i think she is being fair by giving her an opportunity to complete the work and go.

this is a life lesson for the little girl. she is learning that failure to do the work results in loss. the same thing can be applied in adult life. i know it is easy for a parent to say whats the big deal she is only in the what, 2nd or 3rd grade. but i feel its about teaching responsibility. my kid tries to get away with the absolete least amount of work possible at school much like all kids. i now reward him when he puts his best effort forward and goes above and beyond. he now has motivation to do his best and complete his work.

my bro said its a bribe. no its another lesson. as an adult he will be rewarded by his employer for working hard

sorry if i rambled i got hammered last night and my brain isnt 100%

The word "priviledged" to a little girl has a totally dif meaning then to us adults. She should have chose a dif word. The lil girl may start to have feelings of inferiority with class mates if she feels she isn't as good as the others. There are other ways of using disipline to get a child to do their homework. Leave the restrictions to the parents.
