  • BREAKS AT WORK?

HOW ARE BREAKS HANDLED AT YOUR PLACE OF WORK AS FAR AS WHEN YOU TAKE THEM AND HOW LONG, IF SOMEONE COULD EVEN STATE ANY LEGAL VERBAGE. I USSUALLY DON'T TAKE THEM BUT IF THINGS GET SLOW I SLUFF OFF A LITTLE AND CALL IT EVEN STEVEN AS FAR AS WHAT THE COMPANY GETS OUT OF ME. MY BOSS PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY SAYS WE CAN DRINK AT OUR DESKS AND GO TO THE BATHROOM WHEN WE WANT SO THATS YOUR BREAK. I DISAGREE.

    Re: BREAKS AT WORK?

Only union workers at my place get breaks. Oh and smokers can take a smoke break. The rest of us don't get a break except for 42 minutes for lunch. I usually eat at my desk so I take less than 15 minutes (including time to microwave and wash my dish afterwards) and I can go home earlier! I do sometimes go take 15 to 20 minute number #2's? lol!!!

Every workplace with employees has to have a state mandated set of rules and regulations posted for all employees to see. In that you will find your answers. If they dont have it, it's a violation and you can bring the heat....

          Re: BREAKS AT WORK?

I work overnights by myself so I`m really on a break 8 hours a day. Its tough not having a break when you want and need it especialy if you`re involved in fitness & bodybuilding as you need to eat more often etc.

TRAM, how do you manage your meals during the day if it gets busy and you really can`t take a break. ?

I really don't take "breaks" since my job does not really require me to work a full 40hr schedule....Mostly I'm on the PC(looking people up) and other times I'm on the phone(doing the same) and in all honesty, I really don't need a "breaK" from my job since it's pretty laid back.....

You got it. Breaks and lunches are mandated by Federal law. For every 8 hours of work, you are allotted 2 x 15 minute PAID breaks. You are also allowed 60 minutes for lunch, but that is unpaid. However, they MUST give you all 3 (2 breaks + lunch) in order to comply with Federal law. Technically, they aren't even supposed to let you leave an hour earlier if you want to skip lunch and go home early.

Wal-Mart just got the bejeezus sued out of them because they were charging employees the time it took to walk to and from the timecard machine out of their 15 minute breaks, and because they weren't allowing employees to leave once they were clocked out during the graveyard shift, locking them in the store until everyone was finished and ready to go.

DIGGI- I EAT BREAKFAST AT HOME TO WORK BY 8:00 THEN LUNCH AT 12:30-1:00 THEN I EAT AGAIN WHEN I GET OUT AT 5:30, WORKOUT THEN EAT AGAIN AFTER THAT AT ABOUT 9:00 AND AGAIN AT 11:30 P.M. I WOULD LIKE TO EAT AT 10:00 A.M AND AGAIN AT 3:00 PM BUT IT'S TOUGH TO BRING SHIT IN AND GET A CHANCE TO HIT UP THE BREAK ROOM FOR MIN. UNLESS YOU SMOKE CIGS HERE YOUR LOOKED DOWN ON FOR TAKING A BREAK BUT IF THE SUBJECT WERE TO COME UP THE BOSS WOULD SAY "YOU CAN TAKE A BREAK WHEN YOU FEEL YOU NEED ONE" THE REASON I BRING UP THIS TOPIC OF TAKING BREAKS IS I WAS WONDERING OF WHAT NATE MENTIONED ON STATE REGULATIONS I DROP IN HERE ONCE AND WHILE DURING WORK HOURS BUT RARLEY TAKE A BREAK, FOR EX. IF MY BOSS MENTIONED "HEY I NOTICED YOU'VE BEEN SURFING THE NET ON MY TIME" I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON AND SAY WELL THATS HOW I TAKE MY BREAKS SINCE I'M FROWNED ON FOR LEAVING MY DESK A GOING TO THE BREAK ROOM FOR 10-15 MINS. MORE OR LESS JUST CURIOUS OF WHAT GOES ON IN OTHER WORK ENVIORMENTS, THANKS GUYS FOR THE RESPONSES. BESIDES I BUST MY ASS HERE AND GIVE WAY MORE THAN I WILL EVER GET BACK SO PIDDLY SHIT LIKE THIS PISSES ME OFF. SORRY JUST HAD TO THROW THAT IN. PEACE OUT.

Exactly! I own my own corporation and I received all the rules and regs that go with it. Now, I don't employ actual employees, but if the state came by and I didn't have that posted I could still get in trouble.
