i have no problem with counter terrorism. however the implications of the patriot act go far beyond just routing out terrorists.

this administration has used 9/11 to further their agenda, plain and simple, when it comes to both domestic and foreign policy. they are playing on fear and ignorance and IT IS WORKING.

the patriot act is 600 pages long, yet it was released 6 weeks after 9/11?

you think congress can crank out 100 pages a week? this was planned long ago, right along with the removal of saddam hussein. 9/11 got them the public support they needed.

you want to talk about the real causes of terrorism? lets.

how about the invasion/occupation of sovereign nations?

or how about the support of oppressive regimes that trample human rights and stifle the ability of their own citizens to better their lives?

how about the support of the criminal state of israel? (who, btw, has racked up more sanctions for human rights violations via the UN than any other nation)

or how about the complete dominance of the world market through the proliferation of fossil fuels?

the terrorists don't hate us because of our "freedom" or our "resolve" as the administration would have you believe. they hate us because of what our government is doing. the forceful spread of democracy and capitalism is bound to have some sort of backlash!

instead of examining alternate fuel sources and getting the hell out of the middle east, our government has decided to just mow over anyone who gets in our way. why? because the corporations that run the world economy have their fingers so deep in fossil fuels and it's child markets that they would rather waste human life than lose money.

these corporations have given the government the power it needed to carry out their agenda.

and who is suffering the most? average citizens.

how many senators sons do you see overseas holding an M-16?

the sad fact is that those who will never enjoy the fruits of the current administration's agenda are the ones who are dying for it. and now it is trickling down into american mainstream society through legislation.

all for money. so those who have can have much, much more.
BUMP! The highlighted part is the biggest thing IMO. But I agree on ALL points.

nish nish you speak the truth..you guys should see what the second patriot act looks like..they're just waiting for another "terrorist" attack to put that one in --basically it will turn us into a complete police state. they want this to happen around the world which will lead to the nwo.

You stole the words right out of my mouth in response to Dirty South's post. People think the terrorist just hate americans. They didn't just wake up one day and say "let's kill the americans." Something lead them to that. There is only so much people can take before they begin to retaliate.

Actually you don't have to be rich to get an education in the US. I can testify for that. I went to college without paying a dime. My parents are poor! I made good grades in high school and got a full ride scholarship that paid for my college tuition. Then the government gave me pell grants because of my parents' low-income, so I didn't have to pay for books. Now I have a nice job. I make close to 3 times as much money as my parents make combined and my company is paying for me to get a Masters Degree. So in the US if you work hard you can go to school for free. When I have kids, they won't be able to get pell grants due to my income. But if they study and get good grades they can get scholarships. Also student loans are availble for those who don't get scholarships so anyone can go to school if you really want to.

i will address your comments one by one then.

first of all i don't think that capitalism and democracy are "bad things". sure there are problems with capitalism, but i benefit from the system as an american so i chalk those problems up to being inevitable with any system and i certainly think it's preferable to a socialist economy.

my problem is with the way the current administration is forcing their own version of democracy and capitalism on the rest of the world, which has led ultimately to the loss of life. and the people who are dying/suffering are the very ones who will never see the ultimate benefit of the campaign. their lives will hardly improve. the govt has sold the american public on a line that is supposedly defending freedom, when in fact their only goal is to secure more money and power. "keeping america safe" to them is making sure that they remain the dominating force in the worlds economy.

do you know what gives the us dollar value? OIL. in 1971 nixon removed gold as the backing force of american currency and signed an agreement with OPEC nations that all oil sold by them MUST be purchased with american dollars. through this act america secured the guarantee that american currency would be the dominant one in the world economy.

i'm not going to take that bit any further because the only point of it was to show the importance of oil to the american economy. this is why the saudi royal family is kept in power; this is why hussein was removed from power.

now, i certainly benefit from the fact that america is the dominant economic force around the globe, but the latest measures the govt has taken to secure this fact disturb me greatly. what's even more disturbing is that my basic liberties are being slowly eroded because of it.

ANYWAYS, i'm going to stop here because i am too lazy to keep going.

but, i am an american citizen by birth and have lived here all my life.

i am fully aware of my ability to expatriate, and i may choose to do so at some point. but right now both my girlfriend and i have vested careers that we can't just abandon without lots of planning. so that, if anything, is what's keeping me here.

anyways i hope nobody takes any of my comments as personal attacks, these are just my frustrations at the moment, and every time i read about some new shitty legislation that slights my personal liberty in the name of fighting terrorism i go off.

Re: HERE'S THE ASSHOLE YOU GUYS VOTED IN

I want to start by saying the USA is the best country on earth..period. If you don't like it here, leave. You people are probably the same ones that want to say "happy holidays", take prayer out of school, take "In God we Trust" off the dollar bill, and take the 10 commandments out of schools. We don't need you..did fine for 200 years without you.

Secondly, if any of you believe that President Bush sat up there and decided to go send 160,000 troops off to possibly get killed for HIS benefit, then say what you mean, he is a murderer. Do you honestly believe that ALL the generals that are currently serving, all the senators, all the people that were involved in war planning that went along did so at the word of President Bush? No. They did their jobs because they knew it was right. You're assuming that Bush and his cronies will get big bucks off this whole deal...well, that same argument for war profiteering goes back to the Revolutionay war--do you have a problem with us fighting that war?

Difficult decisions and RIGHT decisions are often hard to make and very unpopular. Would you rather Saddam Hussein still be in power? Say what you mean, because had we not attacked and thrown him out, he would still be in power.
Iraq is essentially a new country, as we were over 200 years ago. It takes time to organize a new country. The insurgents and terrorists are doing their best to derail the organization, liberals are helping them, IMO. Give them time, they want to be free.
And to the comment about "senators sons not holding m-16s"...PLEEEASE give this a rest. If youre in the guard and signed up for the benefits, you knew darn well that a day like this could come. No one held a gun to their head to sign up--this is a VOLUNTEER army. As someone posted above, you can get a good education here. Its called grants and loans. Some people are too lazy to take loans out, they want everything handed to them for free.

President Bush has dealt with the worst terrorist attack on American soil and the worst natural disaster on American soil. There has not been another attack on us, and IMO our governor here in La. screwed up the Katrina deal. I think he is doing a good job.

hmm..since when is having a brain and not accepting the govt's bs supposed to mean we hate our country and that we should leave and why does questioning make us hate our country? in fact it is being more patriotic to question your government then to accept everything.-

exactly. this is always the first argument i get hit with. "if you don't like it then leave."

                            LOFL

it kills me to still see people who believe the president and his administration ahve made the "right" decisions when our economy is in the shitter, we are fighting an unpopular war that the majority if the world is against, and our civil liberties are being removed one by one.

no shit hussein was a ****. no one is disputing that! but if you think for one second that his removal had anything to do with his barbaric ways or atrocities then you are on crack. he was removed because he was one of the major obstacles to US domination of the middle east. we were being kicked out of saudi arabia and we needed a new military stronghold.

he also threatened the us economy when he began selling his oil for euros.

blind patriotism, ignorance, and fear are the resons this idiot got re-elected in the first place. OPEN YOUR EYES.

btw, there are about 43 other countries in the world that are run by savage dictators- ones that carry out far worse acts than hussein ever did. but, because the US has no vested economic interest in the countries that this occurs (the sudan, liberia, korea), or the US economic interest are served by those regimes (saudi arabia), we do nothing about it.

so drop the bullshit line about the US getting rid of saddam for human rights reasons.
