Well, the argument is over. The dude from the state just called this morning and he said the pump checks out ok. This isn't the same guy as before, this is the field inspector. After talking to him about my concerns he reassured me he loves to bust these guys anyway he can and I can tell BS when I hear it and I think he was sincere.
He also said that many manufaturers count the max fuel capacity at 90%, not 100%. I told him I talked to my manufacturer and what they said. He said, they might be different but that's how most do it. He also said that he will run his work truck down to where the light comes on and then fill up and he gets a variance of up to 2 gallons from where the light comes on. He said the way they do the whole fuel pump, fuel filter and guage system now that the guage is not perfect. The light doesn't always come on at the same time. Sometimes it will come on when you are almost empty and sometimes when you still have 2 gallons left.
So, the bottom line is I did my investagation and I feel better. Also, he said it's very hard to intentionally change the calibration. He said, that the pump needs to be completely shut down and someone has to come int and reset it. He said he doesn't even have the authority to do it, it is done by a different group of people to make sure things are kept honest.
Man, am I gald my bro didn't get me on the news, I'd look like a real jackass right now. LOL
