I have to disagree with you on this one he may have no lyrical skills but the man is a showman.... he's an accomplished dancer and is a great stage performer but your right he's got no lyrical skills!

rap? i can sum up the content in 5 words.

        ho's
        jewels
        drugs
        guns
        gangs

rap really is influencing kids in negative ways. sure, back in my day people were saying the same thing about heavy metal. but all those metal kids really liked to do was shock people. there were no ritual slayings of goats or any of that crap. but rap really does promote violence and thievery. every other song that i hear is about bangin' and cockin' a gat. it's no wonder teenage violence is higher than ever before. kids fight sure, but these days kids are shooting each other for lunch money instead of just punching each other in the nose. i'm agaist censorship, but this crap is just way out of hand.
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

As far as your summary goes... if the only rap you have ever been exposed too is watching MTV then ya your right but there is a lot of good artists out there who don't rap about any of that stuff "candy" rappers are in the game cause their style is catchy and they all sound the same but if you actually listen to some non-mainstream hip-hop I think you might change your mind..... As far as rap influencing kids I think that's a cop-out violence is a product of the environment which surrounds it granted media does play a minor role but a cd is not putting a gun a joint or anything else in a kids hand.... I could go on for days..... then again that it just MO

I don't think that one can lump ALL rap music into one group and make statements about it. Ozzy biting the head off a dove in front of record producers was not disturbing?

Again - it was about shock value. Sure, it was disturbing, but certainly no more disturbing than a bunch of gang bangers gunning down Tupac.

                You haters stop it.

If you don't like something, don't listen to it.

I've been listening to Rap my whole life, used to get older friends to buy cassetts for me because I was underage, and I have never had the desire to gangbang or gun down somebody because of the music.

Essentially, music is just a harmless artform!! If someone takes something to the next level (violence) as a result of music, it is definately because of a hostile personallity trait or family unbringing!! I have listened to some really good music in my life that doesn't always have a happy theme, but I have never wanted to act out on a feeling I may have gotten as a result of a lyric or the music itself!! That is a cop out!! Peace
