It's actually quite a scary situation! Ya sure they only found 1 cow but now they have to go back how far!! I can't imagine if we had to burn all our cows it would be fricken awful!! They have cut off all supplys for beef!! The counter price is going to go sky rocket!! It is quite a big deal!!!

The only PM Canada's ever had that can't speak EITHER of our national languages properly.
Anyone got that paragraph with the Cretien quote. Goes something about "The proof is in the proof and when we get the proof we'll have the proof." Cept it was way longer and dumber..RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

you guys should read "Fast Food Nation" if you haven't. the new edition includes a whole entire section devoted to Mad Cow.... and it basically said that even though they dis-allowed giving feed rendered from Cows to Cows, they still allow feed rendered from Pig to Cow and Cow to Pig... and since the disease is transferable cross species, it basically means, we're still vulnerable.
it was scary to think about for sure....

It's quite common in sheep and no threat to humans at this point. Infected sheep meat can be eaten and is regularly. From the sheep, it can be transmitted to cows. And at this point it can become dangerous to humans if the infected cow's meat is eaten.
In cows, the disease can only be spread via mother to calf or by feed that's rendered from infected cows or sheep.
Are you sure they wern't talking about sheep instead of pigs? They didn't mention any other animals at all.
It's a really *neat* disease. Not a virus or a bacteria, but rather a protein that can set off a massive chain reaction within the body. Basically, it disolves your brain...RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

Really? I just watched a documentary on this disease. They said it's only ever been diagnosed in Sheep, cows, and humans.

he mentions a lot of other animals, but when u see that the disease can jump from cow to human - what's to say that pigs/chickens/sheep aren't infected?
the other thing they point out is that instances of finding diseased cows may seem low b/c the overall numbers of cows tested is low.... so if you don't test for it (by avoiding it) you basically won't find it.
it was kinda a scary thought
