  • Graves disease

I was just diagnosed with this and the options, for treatment, I am not really crazy about. I am going to get a second opinion but in the meantime I am going to pick up some supps that may be helpful. I have lost 15 pounds in a short time, mose of which is muscle, and it is a bummer. Anyone else have this and what did you do about it?

      Re: Graves disease

I know very little about it. A couple of friends had it 1 had a chemical ablation to destroy the thyroid the other had 1/2 the thyroid taken out. Both are now on thyroid med for the rest of there life. I am too and once they get the levels right it is ok.
Baby prayers to you. When my thyroid was bouncing around with my goiter I would rage for no reason. Please tell your family it may happen and don't take it personal

        Re: Graves disease

The weird thing is that I was hashimotos 8 years ago but I didnt take meds. I got it leveled on my own... This is def worse then how I felt with that. Doc wants to do the radioiodine ablation and I am not liking that at all. I think Id rather have it removed and either way I will be taking meds for my rest of life

The ablation is less invasive than surgery. The main thin is have it done before you have a thyroid storm. That is bad very bad

Only you can decide what is best. It is better to do it before you have a thyroid storm. Maybe you should look it up.

My dad had a portion of his thyroid taken out and he is 100% now and has been since the 90s.

                    Re: Graves disease

Update... Well I am now 30lbs down, and very weak. Just starting to get back in the gym, and I can barely put any weigh on the machine. I expected this so I am going to be patient, and that's not easy. I decided to try anti-thyroid meds instead of the other options. So far the med has stopped the a-fib, and hand tremors have calmed down a lot. Keeping my fingers crossed that this med continues to help me get back to normal.
