A Civil debate on Abortion

My best friend got his GF pregnant about a month and 1/2 ago. Well, they have been having problems since. She broke up with him, but she was still planning on goign through with the baby. Well he just found out, she is scheduling an abortion next week. He just called me. Pro-choice? For whom, only the woman. Its her body, but whats inside is half his. I know, what if it was rape, blah, blah, but thats a special case. What about cases like this, when the man has absolutley no say? What about the baby? Lets ask his or her opinion.

Thats bullshit bro, the father should have a say in what happens. However, the law does not see it that way. Here's what gets me, according to the law a baby is not legally a human being until it is actually born, WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Go ahead but this will not remain civil. Abortion and religion are very touchy subjects but go ahead. I will stay out of this.

Im kinda in a grey area on this one.

on one side, the baby is half his, so he should have a say in it..

on the other side, it is her body...what's she supposed to do if he wants it, and she doesnt? Would she be forced into giving birth, that doesnt sound right to me either...?

i think it should be a mutual decision unless it is a special case like rape....that is all i am going to say on this matter

Welll, maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't think abortion should ever be a choice. Even in "special" cases like rape, there are plenty ways around abortion. Unless your not physically able to carry the child, why not go through with it and put him/her up for adoption? It's murder either way you look at it IMO.

Im going to say how i feel and you guys can yell at me. I think a woman should always be able to decide. Its her body. And i understand that it should be a mutual decision and that your friend may want this baby. One problem i have is the reverse to that. What if she wants it and he doesnt. He is fuked. Bottom line. IF you dont want kids, dont go knocking anyone up. if you do want kids, make sure she does too.

Yeah this is a big grey area.... I definantly think that the guy should have some sort of a say.... but what about when its flipped and the girl wants it and the guy wants to abort..... how does that one usually turn out? It seems to always be the females decision.....

1. i agree that she probably should have consulted and discussed with him when she changed her mind about keeping the baby.

2. you have to realize that it's not just a "9 month" committment if she decided to keep the baby. since they're not together, there's nothing she really has that can ensure she can get future child support for the child. it is a lifetime committment to have a child. the decision to have kept it out of wedlock, would have NO DOUBT had a much more significant impact on her life than his. think about this. raising a child is a serious and difficult responsibility. i don't think that she would have made such a choice if she thought that she could have provided for the child in all the ways that she would have wanted to WITHOUT its father.

3. the decision to have or not have an abortion is an extremely difficult and personal choice. don't under estimate the amount of internal turmoil and debate she might have already gone through before arriving at this decision.

I maybe should have been a little more civil in the title. I agree, in cases like rape, etc, the are exceptions to the rule. But in other cases, what about adoption? I know my sister would love it, she and her husband have been trying to concieve over 10 years to no luck.

I have had many arguments about it and agree with you prolangtum.....What about OUR RIGHTS......but sadly its a no win argument
