  • When a bodybuilder dies and passes away

Lets make a discussion out of this

When a bodybuilder dies and it's clear that steroid abuse was a major factor, why does everyone point fingers and say "see, I told you so it was because of steroids. You go too hard and too fast and you'll eventually crash. He knew the repercussions". ?

But when Dale Earnhardt crashed his car into the wall during the Daytona 500, there was no blame. There was no "he knew what he was getting himself into" "every race is a major risk" "you're playing with fire". The tone is sad, not blameworthy.
Both of these people were going full throttle toward a goal to finish the race first and they were doing whatever they could to do it. Why the difference in reaction and backlash?
Disclaimer: Steroid use is illegal in a vast number of countries around the world. This is not without reason. Steroids should only be used when prescribed by your doctor and under close supervision. Steroid use is not to be taken lightly and we do not in any way endorse or approve of illegal drug use. The information is provided on the same basis as all the other information on this site, as informational/entertainment value.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that when someone abuses steroids and whatever else they are on, it's because it's "illegal" and that the amounts are just out of control and ridiculous, so it's seen as they did it to themselves.
When a sports athlete dies, it's usually an accident and nothing they've done to themselves

i think there is the stigma of "illegality" as Skeletor said but there's always that underlying hint of penis envy that this guy had jacked physique that wasn't purely created by steroids, but was crafted through insanely hard work and incredible willpower to adhere to a diet like that and determination and grit to climb under a 1200 pound leg press or a 500 pound bench press and do insane amounts of cardio to get ripped. SO much easier from a lazy layperson's perspective to blow it off as "see, all that work and drugs to end up dead anyway, pass me another beer and a platter of nachos bartender!"
      just my feeling

I'll tell you this , People hate what they do not understand .
It's quick to blame a death on steroids than to really dig into what may have caused the issue . If it was understood more , like WE understand it , then it wouldn't be the scapegoat for everything Bodybuilding related .

To much of anything will kill you, eventually. But yeah, people point fingers because they are ignorant uneducated fools.

i dont want an autopsy done on me just for that very reason. let my big ass kill over and rest in peace. everyone makes a huge deal out of bodybuilders choices and it killing some yet you can eat yourself to death and die a fat disgusting pig and no one even bats an eye. they even have shows about it promoting the garbage.

When I die you all can blame exposure to country music. When I hear that stuff it makes me sick and too much will probably kill me
