Re: For those over 40?
I can't say that I need more time to recover. For me, I seems that I have to be a bit more in tune with wshat my body is telling me. Every now and then I'll take a day off to let the nervous system recover. I'm a firm believer that when we stop we seize up, so I never stop for too long.

Re: For those over 40?
I learned the hard why that my body isn't the same as when I was younger. This past year's pre-contest training left me with a bunch of injuries. I still feel like I'm recovering from them at times. I've backed off training heavy and maxing out. I take more time off now and time to recover if I feel like my body needs it. No more balls-to-the-wall training... my husband and I are calling it... Train not strain.

Re: For those over 40?
I find that I can still train hard but my muscles won't ache from it until a day or two later.
My biggest problem is I was alot more dedicated to my training 20 years ago as opposed to now. Hell, the manager at the drug store where I worked would ask me my training schedule before asking me to come in to work on extra days because he knew that I had always put my training first. Now, I find that working and sleeping and if I find time, eating, are the only things that I do.

Re: For those over 40?
I'm well over 40 and find that if I train with a goal in mind and set down what I am going to do, it works better for me. Bear in mind I'm not a BB all my goals are weight oriented. I find that without gear if I overtrain I sometimes take a step back. After I hit some Max 1 reps PR's I take a week off and re access my progress. J.R.
