  • Forearm Splints

I know what they are and what causes them. I just want to know this. If I ice them and take NSAIDS to work through the pain, is that dangerous? I went to a sports medicine doc for this like 18 months ago, but ****, I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. I think he said they aren't dangerous, just painful but that if you don't ease off the heavy weights, they will get worse. I can get through the pain, got a pretty high threshold, just don't want to cause serious injury. Anyone know?

I'm starting to see some nice progress and I don't want to stop lifting heavy if I don't have to. Thoughts?

    Re: Forearm Splints

Yes, very simple. 1st try to avoid the NSAIDS. NSAIDs inhibit 2 enzymes your body uses for healing called COX-1 or Cox-2, thats why you hear about cox inhibitors. They do reduce inflammation, however, inflammation is not just a sign of injury, but a necessary component of the healing process. Inflammatory cells, which rush to the scene when a ligament, tendon or muscle is injured, remove debris and recruit growth factors called cytokines. By preventing the natural inflammation that occurs right after injury, NSAIDs will slow down the healing process. Trust me on this one: THE DRUG COMPANIES DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS!!!!!They would rather you stay on NSAIDS and not heal so you will take more NSAIDS...Use your ice packs. Load up on Natural Anti-oxidants and Fish Oil and find a Dr. at activerelease.com...Call and make an appointment asap. Usually You will heal up inside of 6 visits with ART, but you may have to back off on any lifting that hurts. If you "work through" the pain they will get worse and eventually your nice progress will STOP! hope this helps.Good luck.

^yup. Some things you can work through and others just do more damage. ART is the shiznit though! I've gone through the forearm thing in the past and it ain't fun. I saw an ART specialist and did a good bit of soaking in ice water. Aside from that I had to stop benchin heavy for a little while (it's been 4 months) and I do alot of prehab work for my wrists and elbows.

Dzone gave many good tips. Its apparent you need to lay off for a while. I'de turn a negative into a positive and use this opportunity to concentrate on your legs. Most people neglect them.

            Re: Forearm Splints

ive had shin splits before from running on hard surfaces too much and i tried to work through the pain and they became extremely painful stress fractures. Id imagine continuing to workout while having forearm splits may do the same. Just ice is like crazy and take some time off otherwise like they said ur good progress will eventually stop

You would need to take an awful lot to affect your kidneys. 800-1200mg a day of ibuprofen would be fine barring any existing kidney problems. I do agree about staying on it for prolonged periods... no good. It is far better then Tylenol which is cleared by the liver and we are all on drugs that tax the liver... f#$% that.

Thanks so much for the advice. I did NOT know this. This is very interesting. I suppose I will have to cut back a bit. I'm going to quit using the EZ bar for a while too. I know the EZ bar is notorious for putting stress on the forearm flexors. I will just stick with dumbells and machine for now I suppose. Thanks for takin the time to reply. Much appreciated.
