Does it really mess up your shoulders in the long run? If it does then is it even worth doing?

      Re: Flat BB Benching

I have never had problems with my shoulders from flat bb benching. A factor that may cause pain in the shoulders would be if you have a really wide grip.
"Up to a point a man's life is shaped by environment, heredity, and the movements and changes in the world around him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes to be. Only the weak blame parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone has it within his power to say, 'This I am today; that I will be tomorrow.' The wish, however, must be implemented by deeds."

Dumbells with a slight supination is a much more natural movement than barbell. it allows the humeral head to slide out slightly from under the acromian so you dont get that compression. The most common gym injury is shulder pain from BB bench...but some people can do it all day long and never have a problem with it.

Must be nice to have that option of "Hmmmm should I stay in the 400s or jump to the 500s today?"

I think that using flat bb bench in moderation is fine, providing your form is correct. That being said, use it all the time, elbows out, rolling the shoulders forward and you're asking for injury, imo.

Man, it's really starting to hurt my right rotator cuff. Do you all think it's because I'm letting the bar lightly touch my chest which is going well below 90 degrees. I have pretty long arms.

Bench press and military presses are exercises you can either do or you cant. Trying to determine the cause of rotator cuff pain can be difficult. Whose to say you didnt injure your rotator last time you did shoulders and its just not getting enough time to heal?

I've used flat bench my entire "career" as a staple for chest and never had a problem. But I never force more weight than I can handle, use a wider grip - but not silly wide, and always control the bar. I touch off as you do but its slow and deliberate.

Does your shoulder ALWAYS hurt when you bench, even at light weights or is there a threshold at which the pain begins?
who you are is determined by what you do when no one is watching.
