  • cardio on treadmill

    what program do you use...i got a treadmill with incline (up to 10%)...what does everyone do. right now i'm on it 5 days a weak (too much?) 20 mins a shot (after 5min walk/warm up), 3.5% incline and i run 7mph for 1.5mins and 3.5mph for 1 minute...goal?...loose that little tire i got going on but i still want to maintain (or possibly gain) muscle mass...thaught's?

    IF UR DOIN 2O MINS DO 2.5 MINS AT 3 MPH. 7.5 MINS AT 8 MPH. 7.5 MINS AT 5 MPH AND 2.5 MINS AT 3 MPH

          I don't ever run.
          My cardio MAY get to a 4mph max. I usually stay at 2-3deg incline. On occasion I will up the angle to 5-7 if I'm trying to burn a little onthe glutes.
          But I stay moderate on the speed and incline but go for a min. of 30 minutes.

          I like the method BigSarge has but I just can't run and I would be worried about getting into a cardio mode not just a fat burning mode.
          Too fast for too long and that's exactly what will happen. Fat ain't buring if we're truly doing cardiovacular work.
          It's a big misnomer to say we're doing cardio because we really don't want to IF the goal is simply fat loss.

                once again.. what sal said! what i do is around 3mph (i have short legs) and vary your incline to adjust intesity. don't get your heart rate into the cardio range... i would say no higher then 130 bpm because you don't want to burn energy faster then you can convert fat into a source of fuel. for me at least 30mins works best. if you could do your cardio in the morning on an empty stomach it would be even more benifical.

                  I DO, DO IT IN THE MORNING...I CAN DO 30MINS IF THATS BEST. THE WAY I'M DOING IT NOW, MY PULSE DONT REALLY GO OVER 130...MAYBE 131,132 BUT THATS IT...BUT IT SOUNDS AS IF A NICE STEADY WALK WOULD BE GOOD? I DO THAT ALL DAY! LOL

                    perfect... let your progress on weight loss tell you how much cardio to do. don't drop ur cals to try to lose more just add cardio. try 30mins and i think you'll notice more loss. if you burn 500 cals per cardio session times 7 days a week that 1lbs of fat loss from cardio alone. you should lose another pound a week through lower cal intake. try not to lose more then 2lbs a week.... unless ur doing a show and have to be more concerned!

                            Good info guys. I guess I've been doing it wrong. I usually have my heart rate in the cardio zone. I'll try to lower my intensity so that I'm in the fat burning zone.
