  • Wrist Wraps do they help?????

Okay so when I do shrugs I'm having trouble with my grip. I can only get a few reps when going heavy, but it's because my grip is not strong enough to hold the weight. If I had some way of holding the weight better I'd easily be able to pump out an additional 10-15 reps per set on the heavy weights or go super heavy.

    Enter wrist wraps......

This is where I wonderd if wrist wraps would solve my problem? I've never used them and have no clue how to use them. Would they help? And if so how do you use them??

Last question, doesn't one of our sponsors sell them?

I was browsing on Prowriststraps site and they have many many options. Again I've never used them and don't know which ones would be best for me. Can someone help me pick a good one? I want whichever one insures the most support, and safety possible. Thanks!

Just a small point, but you're talking about lifting straps, not wrist wraps. Wrist wraps support the joint during bench presses and squats. Lifting straps are what you use to Shrug.

Whoops, that site seems to be calling them "wrist wraps" also. This leads to confusion on the matter...but they're still properly called lifting straps.

they are esentially a strap of cloth with a loop at one end, you take the one end without the loop and put it thru the loop on the other end. this makes a circle of cloth, you put your hand thru it and pull it tight. After that you have a peice of cloth hanging from your wrist that you wrap around the bar, you have to make sure you wrap it away from your grip or else it doesnt do much but just slide out. If you arent sure which way to wrap it, try both and see which holds better. In my perspective I think they work amazingly. I can only DL like 315 without them, but I can get around 405 with them with no grip problem. They are good for major lifts but dont use them all the time or your grip will just weaken. The End. See, I post useful stuff sometime.

dead lifts, and my heaviest sets on row type exercises...thats where u want to use them. try not to use them all the time or your grip will never get better

I know you're more interested in bb than pl but you should still be doing grip work imo. Strengthen your grip and you'll improve on your bench, deads and increase the size of your forearms.

I only want to use them for shrugs. I am currently using 240lbs and am losing my grip halfway into my reps. My muscles can hold probably an extra 100lbs but my grip is not strong enough. I do many grip exercises and it's just taking way too long to catch up to my traps. I'll continue to do grip exercises as grip is very important in bb, but on shrugs I want to go heavy.

I have very very good genetics in my back, but it's useless if I can't use a weight to tax those muscles!
