Re: Wrist Wraps do they help?????

I don't use the clothe ones, mine are padded around the wrist and then have this leather piece that wraps around the bar. They are 10 times easier to use, the let go of the weight when you are done easier and they don't dig into your wrist when you are going really heavy.

    Here's the link: http://www.versagripps.com/index.php?area=versagripps

I bought mine at Gart Sports (Sports Authority) about 5 years ago and they are still in great condition. I've never had straps last this long. When I used to use the clothe ones I would go through a pair every year because they fall apart. The versa grips grip with leather and its tough. Mine are much older and don't have the velcro like they new ones do. Everyone I know that has switched to these likes them better. They cost more but you get what you pay for.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.

I personally think they are essential when you get into the heavier weight but you need to walk that fine line so you can strengthen you forearms as well. If my grip gives out before my back does then I use them otherwise i go "raw dog".

Re: Wrist Wraps do they help?????

Okay so I just ordered a set of RD Millenium 'The Hooker' reverse hook wrist straps. I definitely would have gone with APT's as they looked like an excellent product, but unfortunately for me they won't have any in stock for atleast a few weeks. No surprise though usually high quality items are high in demand so that definitely makes sense.

Anyway I'll let you all know how the hook's work. It seems everyone uses straps and hasn't actually tried the hooks so I'll write up a review on them after a good month or two of abuse.

Love wrist straps. Use 'em for shrugs, dumbell rows, and deadlifts, essentially any exercise where my grip will give out before the muscle I'm currently training.

Just bought some APT reverese hooks... anyone have these? I tried using them today and they work poorly for me... they hang far to low and make it feel like im griping the bar with my fingertips... im going to return them and just stick with straps.

I bought the RD Millenium "The Hooker" Reverse hook straps and I love them.

Are you letting the hook do the work? I grip the bar with the hook, then I put my fingertips under the hook and let the majority of the weight rest on the hook, and the reamainder on my fingertips.

I put 100lbs on my shrugs by using these in 1 day!

i baught some kind of hook contraption that i really did like!! but the strap that is used to tighten around the wrist stretched out, and now it bunches up when i go heavy!!

i only use them for heavy shurgs. you should work on your grip like kite said. it will come with time and practice. i only use them for shrugging over 400lbs.

I use plain ol straps, they are actually prowrist wrap from our sponser, but Sheik makes these straps that essentially combine a padded wrist wrap and strap....they are awesome if the plain ones are starting to rub through your flesh....lol
