  • Help! Can't decide on a new routine

    Alright everyone, I need some help.

    For about 3 months now, I've been seriously lifting, and over the winter, it isn't too hard. But lately, as the weather has been getting better out, Ive been partying more and more. That makes it really hard to get in a nighttime workout over the weekend. Sometimes I've been doing one at 12:00 at night, and that can't be good.

    So I'm wondering if I should switch to a four day routine, Mon-Tues-Wed-Thur, and take Fri-Sat-Sun off. I would probably do some cardio in the mornings 6-7 times a week even if I switched to this. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Or am I taking too much time off? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

    I don't think your would be taking to much time off.....

    What would your split look like for the Mon-Thurs

    What are your goals

      Alright, I just started lifing seriously about 3 months ago, so I'm still small, about 150lbs, and 5'8". I want to be about 175lbs by next winter.

      Right now I had two thoughts, I could do:

      1) Monday-arms/shoulders/chest/back
      Tuesday-Legs/abs/lower back
      Wednesday-Same as monday
      Thursday-same as tuesday

      2) Monday-Arms/Shoulders
      Tuesday-Chest/abs
      Wednesday-Upper Back, Lower Back
      Thursday-Legs

      I'm not too sure on these, so if you could give me any advice, or point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated.

        monday-chest, triceps, abs
        wed- legs
        friday- back shoulders biceps

        thats just an idea....only hit each body part once a week, and stick to compound movements..(bench, military, squats, deads, rows,ect).forget all the little isolation movements.Split it up however you want, but ONLY ONCE A WEEK

          I’ll disagree slightly with my friend Pigmeat. I believe that you can ht the muscle twice in one week, however not with the same intensity. For example upper body workout 1 may be low weight heavy reps while workout 2 would be lighter weight more reps and a focus on speed.

          Either should be good, just don’t over do it. Try one split and keep a journal of your progress the try the next and track that progress, just be mindful that progress slows over time.

          I would suggest that you begin with 1 body part per week. Then switch.

            If your pressed for time then do all the basic compound movements twice a week on monday and thurdays. You should have started this way from the beginning. You can still do cardio in the mornings. Your too new at this to get all fancy yet. And this is the best way to pack on a lot of muscle fast. Yes it's hard but worth it.
