About this... Ive read it alot in the forums, but my goal is to get cut, build a couple pounds of muscle and stay strong (no strength loss... finally got 315 bench, dont want to lose it). I am sick of not seeing my abs, and ive only got like 4% tops bf to loss (at 12 now i think). Anyways, my question is, will doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach really help that much more than doing it at another time? What is the difference percent wise? like 200% better in the morning or what? Also, ive been doing cardio after workout around 8 at night, and ive maintained strength, will doing it in the morning make me weaker you think? Any helps appreciated, Thanks.

Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
I agree with the above answer....however, i've heard it said before that 30 minutes in the morning on an empty stomach is like an hour in the evening.
Not saying that i AGREE with that at all, it's just something floating around out there. Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
A protein shake first thing in the morning and then do an hour of speedwalking for a nice fatburn exercise. Remember, cardio is not as good at buning fat because your heart rate is higher requiring carbs for a premium type fuel. Conversely, speedwalking will keep your heartrate lower thus allowing fat to be a sufficient fuel for energy.Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
I would have to say doing cardio in the morning first thing in the morning wouldn't necessarily affect your push or drive. That is of course as long as your intensity isn't very high. For the high intensity workouts (cardio or resistance) the majority of energy comes from your Creatine-phosphate system and glycolysis. As many may be aware of, glycolysis begins with glucose (the carbohydrate most foods are broken down to). That being said, high intensity exercise will be negated if you lack carbohydrates in your system (which could result from an overnight fast). In contrast, if you perform a lower intensity exercise, you can rely on fats as a fuel. Biochemically, fats, as well as some protein amino acids (but to a lesser extent), can be broken down to aceytl-CoA which is the first substance utilized in aerobic metabolism (TCA cycle). To answer your question, if you are planning to do a high intensity aerobic workout in the AM, your body will most likely need some carbohydrates in the morning. If you really wanted to focus on fat loss, you could do a low-intensity endurance workout for a much longer time. However, you could most likely burn the same amount of fat, or more, if you exercise at a high intensity with added carbohydrates from an AM meal an hour or so prior.

Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
take some protein before you do it, and cardio in the morning is pretty effective for fat loss (on an empty stomach) if you dont like that do it as late as night as possible (assuming you do carb cut offs)

Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
IMHO, and i've been working out in am most of my life
yeah, empty stomach is fine, two caveats, take a protein shake before bed, and eat within 20 minutes of finishing
you're cutting, most important thing about cutting is you cannot miss a meal, you just can't or immediately you catabolic and all your work is down the drain
like everything else, you need to try it and see if it is for you
good luck

Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
Shock... good post. Cardio first thing in am on an empty stomach works better for "fat loss" because your glycogen stores are at their lowest. It is NOT a good idea to do your strength training on an empty stomach.

Originally posted by mick-GI have tried the cardio on empty stomach and didn't notice a damn thing, and also it is hard to get energy after doing it that way.
Best workout when I do it that way.

Re: Cardio in the morning on an empty stomach?
Here's the facts:
Breakfast kicks your metabolism in.
Training burn glycogen.
If you do not eat breakfast until 2 or more hours after you wake up you are getting a slow start to your metabolic fat buring. If your goal is to lose fat then it's counter productive to not eat breakfast. Drink a shake, liquid meals have a gastric emptying time of around 30-35 minutes so it wont effect you training, yet it will feed your muslces.
Not eating breakfast will force your body to burn up the glycogen in your muscle stores. If, you have nto eaten in a while and your blood glucose levels are too low to effectively resotore glycogen, then your muscles will literally start converting the amino acids in your muscles to glycogen for energy. What does that mean? It means the protein you ate yesterday is now being burned to allow you to do cardio or train in the morning on an empty stomach instead of staying in the msucle where it should.
Final conclusion: You can slow your muscle gains by training on an empty stomach. You will impeed your your metabolic fat burner by not eating breakfast. This is not my opinion, this is Anatomy & Phisiology 101.
