    Re: Anastrozole and Sex Drive

It is all relative to how much you take, but for the most part the answer is "No." Anastrozole will not affect you sex drive much, if at all.

Anti-estrogens can cause a downturn in sex drive if too much estrogen is neutralized. Estrogen in men is not all bad, and a certain amount is necessary to maintain a healthy sex drive, among other things. Letrozole is a powerful steroidal (permanently binding) anti-estrogen that can take your estrogen levels below that threshold, and thereby reduce or elimintate the libido. Anastrozole is a weaker non-steroidal (but still effective) anit-estrogen that rarely produces this effect. This is because a typical dose of anastrozole is not enough to drop your estrogen levels so low.

It is worth mentioning that these are but two of the many options we have for the purpose of combating estrogen. Many people actually prefer exemestane or proviron while on cycle, though each anti-E has different chemical properties and is useful.

I hope that this explanation helps.

Jeez Dave, you can't give proper "propers" without hitting me up with reps! LOL

By the way, it looks like you've been busy with providing some great info too.

It is all relative to how much you take, but for the most part the answer is "No." Anastrozole will not affect you sex drive much, if at all. Anti-estrogens can cause a downturn in sex drive if too much estrogen is neutralized. Estrogen in men is not all bad, and a certain amount of estrogen is necessary to maintain a healthy male sex drive, among other things like cartilage, ligament elasticity, cholesterol, etc. Letrozole is a powerful steroidal (permanently binding) anti-estrogen that can take easily your "free" estrogen levels below a threshold, and thereby reduce or eliminate the male libido. Anastrozole is a weaker non-steroidal (but still effective) anti-estrogen that rarely produces this undesireable effect. This is because a typical dose of anastrozole is not enough to drop your estrogen levels so low. It is worth mentioning that these are but two of the many options we have for the purpose of combating estrogen. Some people prefer exemestane or proviron while on cycle, though each anti-E has different chemical properties and is useful. For instance, Letrozole is often used to combat gyno after it is already present, because the chemical is so powerful that it can usually reverse or significantly reduce a lump by starving the mass of estrogen (beware of estrogen rebound!). **This is not recommended as a long-term treatment however, because of estrogen's important role in the body. Each of these chemicals should be researched and thoroughly understood before use in any on-cycle or post-cycle treatment.** There are many ways these anti-estrogens can effect body chemistry and it is important to be aware of each possible side-effect before use. I hope that this explanation helps.
