If a moderator or Vet well versed on insulin useage could make a Sticky about insulin that would be great.. Tons of contradicting info if you google it and i'd prefer to get info from someone off a board I "trust"...

first off i would highly recommend using humalog as your first choice and humilin r only as a second option. the active time for log is only a couple of hours while r can linger for 6-8 hours and peaks more than one time. log only peaks on you one time. so that's the start pick one of the two types, either log or r.
second you have to decide if you are going to use it pre workout or post workout. both have their merits but the majority will go with pre due to it driving in more nutrients while breaking the muscle down and will help you from going completely catabolic during your training. now with post use you get nutrients driven into muscle that are already broke down, so it will also drive much more into the muscle.
third you can go the 2x a day split dose and some will go with 3 times a day dose. first thing in the am with first meal, pre or post training and then later on in the pm. me personally i am not a fan of this method for a couple of reasons. 1- being that you are def slowing down your own pancreas by hitting external slin multiple times daily 2- fat intake needs to be minimal during these active windows and i like to eat red meat and some other fatty foods during the day. 3- to me this practice tends to be far more risky not only to making yourself diabetic but also increasing your chances of going hypo.
now once you have made you choice pre or post and the type of slin your going to use, start slow. first few days to a wk go with 2-3 ius. then slowly move up over time to your desired dose of 10-15ius is what most go with. now that you have established everything take a look at nutrition and timing. good rule of thumb is 10g carbs per iu. you have to play with that a bit to get to your sweet spot. once you are comfortable with the number you can slowly pull it back if you want to. some people can go with as little as 5g of carb per iu and some cannot. that is something you have to dial in own your own but staying a little above what you need is always best and safest.
now an example of a setup i would do (hypothetically) with humalog:
first meal
16oz steak
2 cups oats w/ 2 tbl spn coconut oil or almond butter
pre slin meal
50-75g protein shake
8oz sweet potatoes
take slin
intra workout (start sipping about 5-10min post slin)
large gatoraide or other sport drink mixed with creatine beta al and an inra workout carb source such as intra md, karbolyn, vitargo or something of that nature.(i would go 1-150g of this depending on how much slin)
post workout
50-75g whey protein(make sure it is fat free)
8oz sweet potatoes
45-60min later
egg whites or boneless skinless chicken breasts
carb of your choice
i also like to have supplemental cinnamon in before my first meal. 300mg caps is what i use alongside of ala to help with insulin sensitivity. just something i like to do myself to help my own body out a bit
the biggest focus is to keep fat down to a very bare minimal during the active window. the reason i have either almond butter or nut oil in that first meal is to slow the release of carbs down even further so they dont burn off to quickly. you also have to always keep sugar on hand when the slin is active. a sugary drink, glucose tabs, jelly beans gummy bears etc...... also know the signs that you are going hypo, extreme sweating, confusion, dizziness and an overall not right feeling. ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FOR NO REASON, GO TO SLEEP DURING THE ACTIVE WINDOW OF USING SLIN
i know i am leaving out a ton here but i am sure others will chime in and fill in the blanks i have left out. i am pretty sure i covered most of the basic aspects for the most partTGBSupplements REP
