The cuban exchange is 20/23 to 1usd. Make sure you don't leave the island with any Cuban money since it's useless anywhere outside Cuba (not recognized by the international banking community).
The comms (fuckin communists) will love you. You're the only source of us$$$ so they'll cater to you like slaves. Hate them all mother fuckers!!!

That's the way to go. Small bills so you don't have to wait for people to brake larger bills for you. Don't want to call too much attention. If you go to Havana City, there are plenty of tourists spots (safe) in El Vedado and in Old Havana there are some nice well preserved colonial buildings. Also go by El Morro. You and your friends will love it there. El Morro and La Cabaņa (next to each other). They are next to El Vedado and El morro is an old light house. There is a museum and restaurants there. Very nice spot. From La Cabaņa is where they shoot the 9:00 o'clock cannon shot. It's a very old tradition in Havana City. You can hear the boom all over the city. It's exactly at 9 o'clock pm (el caņonaso de las 9).
With the cuban cigars, beware. Only buy them at oficial communist stores. Don't buy them on the streets since more likely they are fakes..... You'll love Varadero. You'll never see sand like that again no matter where you go.

I asked my girl and they run for $50 on the st the box of 18. Now lots of people take them out of the factory and are legit sold on the st. but you have to know your cigars. They are of an olive green brown (more on the brown side) box sealed with the official stamp sticker and all cigars with the rings. The smell is the most important. They smell sweetish. Also, if you can buy one and light it, a true cohiba once lighted will never put itself out. Nor will it burn unevenly. The ash won't fall off not even when it's about 1" long and the cigar is gently moved. If you don't trust the streets, you can buy them in a store for 100-150max the box of 18.

                Oh another few pointers:

1.- There is a difference between Ciudad de la Habana (Havana city or City of Havada) and La Habana or Provincia Habana (Havana and Havana Province). There is nothing for you to see outside City of Havana.
2.- If you're renting a car, get ready to pay top dollar for gas.
3.- Cuban slang. In case you hear somebody calling you this you'll know they mean trouble.
                Maricon (faggit)
                Singao (fucked in the ass)
Hijo de puta (son of a *****)
Comepinga (big time asshole translated means "dick eater)
Comemierda (foolish asshole translated means "shit eater)
                Pinga (dick)
                Puta (*****)
Me cago en el coņo de tu madre (I shit in your mom's puss. Very offensive)
