  • Protein question

Is there such thing as eating to much protein in 1 meal? Meaning (on average) how much protein is to much in 1 meal. How much can the body use up. Am I making sense??

FOr example say in 1 meal I eat 4 chicken breast and a glass of milk, so that equals 90-100 grams of protein. Will my body use all of that protein right away or does some of it go to waste?? Whats the most protein I should eat in one sitting?

I would try to keep it around 30-50 grams per meal...with six meals per day that's 180-300...which if you're eating a gram of protein per lb of bodyweight (or slightly more) is a range most of us would fall into...just my 2¢

Shit, This question has been asked twice today......

But I agree with Hehateme, there is no set number. I might be able to absorb 50, you might only be able to absorb 35. Things like Ginger root certainly help that absorbtion, but remember with shakes that you're not going to absorb say all 40 grams.

I have to dissagree with this idea that your body can only absorb 50 grams of protien. If you eat 4 meals a day 100g of protien each meal or 8 meals a day with only 50g of protien I would guess that you will not see a difference in muscle buildup or density. You may gain some extra fat but thats about it in my oh so humble opinion

So do u think anything over 50 grams is a waste? Its been giving me the shitz lately!! I am popping about 3 500mg ginger root pills a day. Hopefully it will help my body digest all of that extra protein. I am trying to do about 350-400 grams of protein a day. I am 28 6 foot 242. Although I carry about an extra 20-30 lbs that hopefully will be burnt off by summer.

I personally wouldnt take in more than 50 (Probably no more than 40-45 per meal) but I doubt anyone can find a legit peer review article or study that says exactly why you shouldnt, other than the obvious stomach ailment you mentioned above. Drink plenty of water if you're going to take in that much.

People have said(magazines as well) that no more than 35-45 grams of protein per meal, you would just be waisting it. Your body can only consume so much at a time, unless you have ginger root I guess.

I guess that is what I hate about it, no one really knows it seems to just be one of those steriod/workout rumors that everyone has heard. Maybe Macro at AF knows.

A porter house has almost 90 grams of protien. plus a potatoe and you have a lot of protien. I dont think half of it doesnt get processed.

The type of the protein makes a big difference too.. Alot more protein from a steak will get absorbed than 100g of whey protein.

Ginger root is amazing, but I think you need more than what most people take. 1-2g before a big protein shake is optimal for me.

this is all true but what about on a AS like DECA your body has increased protein synthesis on the steroid which lets the body absorb more protein and put it to beter use... so id say if you goin natural then yes 35-40 grams a meal is max but on a steroid like deca id say you can take in 60-70 grams effectivly, just what ive researched and belive so i donno....

I'm not a genius or anything, but I will say this:

In regards to what you're saying, the human body just isn't that simple of a machine.....there's much more than meets the "eye" that is simply too difficult to put into unprofessional writting here in the forums.

I've also forever heard that the body efficiently consumes 30-40ish grams per serving (im sure this varies).....I have also read this in literature somewhere.
And of course....yeah, the added protein consumption given to us by gear is true (im sure we all know that though).
