34pumped. Hey I am also a diabetic like your son. I use to take N (NPH) also it is what's called a basal insulin it is suppose to mimic your bodys natural insulin release. I have been diabetic for 17 years. In those 17 years I have used R, U, L, and NPH. I now use Humalog (which I have used for the past 5 years) and I use a basal insulin called Lantus. The difference between Lantus and the N, L , and U is that the lantus which is a basal insulin last for 24 hours. I have found that my blood sugars are in way better controll than they ever were using the other basal insulins. You ought to ask your sons DR. about it. The Lantus is made by a company called Aventis. Check them out on the web. Just an FYI.

I agree with Kblake... Lantus is the shiznit! I end up taking more shots with it... 1 at night and then humolog at each meal but I have so much better control of my sugars. Also, if you guys have access try to get your hands on an "Innovo" It is made be Novo Nordisk and uses cartridges of Humolog. The cool thing about it is that you just dial up how much you want to take, and then just administer... no more carrying around bottles and pins. Also it tells you how many units you took and how long ago you took them.
