im just wondering how heavy you guys go when doing uprights. i can do a 35 on each side with perfect form, but when i jump up to a 45 i kinda have to cheat.. basically my question is, is this a movement where you need to go heavy to get the results? i tend to think so. its killer for the lateral delts.

I feel uprights are most effective for me when I use a moderately heavy weight(8 reps to fail) and I go moderately fast, not giving my body a chance to hold any one postion.

Always maintaining proper form, will reduce your chances of injury.
I definetly agree with Blm though, Uprights will swell your shoulders up.........................They feel great too........

Poundage isn't important to me when I do them. I focus more on my form and the rep speed, I like doing negatives with upright rows.

one of my favorite movememnts for the shoulders... love to watch the veins pop out of my neck when going heavy... and I think they are the best for adding size even better than military presses
I dont care if it kills me... as long as I look good in the box

I use the EZ curl.... for a few months I will use the inside grip then for a few months I will switch to the outer grip to change things up a bit... straight bar hurts me

I use all 10lb weights to eliminate my elbows hitting the plates..
I go as high as 50lbs (5 10lb plates) on each side of the bar in weight. I believe that would be 115lbs total...

I find the straight bar and varying your grip width a couple of inches each set works very well, and yes, you need to go heavy buy trying to keep a basic form also.

If I use a straight bar a use straps to help me hold on to the bar. My wrists hurt if I don't. I usually use the E-Z Curl bar inside grip though, between (80lbs and 110lbs).

On a side note I heard that doing wide grip upright rows was really bad for your shoulders, is this true?

this exercise can also be done on the cable machine, more controllable, makes a great super set anyway...
