The university is associated with a hospital; all one big happy family really. This means we are subject to HIPPA which is a very stringent set of laws governing patient privacy. Because of HIPPA regulations, the computer people do not let us have administrative rights on our computers. We can't load our own software. They have to do it for us; sometimes remotely. Are you getting the picture? They can log on to our computers without our knowledge remotely and if he didn't erase his cookies (may even be unable to do so without administrative privilage), they could just go to EF and it would automatically logon with his username and password. Then they could just browse around his posts, etc.Spidey is a fictional character. I do not use or condone the use of illegal drugs. As far as this goes he can say he was wonder how gear works. Where is there a better place to learn? People research thing all the time. If there is no convection there is no record. If he has an offer than its not an issue with the university. Are the cops actively presuming this? If not tell him to blow it off. Well it’s easy for me to say that they did call me.

Well, someone reminded me that they could use his cookies if he did not delete them before he left and why would he do that; visiting EF is not illegal.

As someone who works for a college, it sounds like someone in the IT department rated him out to the campus police. I know that our IT department has full access to everything on the network and can even remotely watch what we are doing and track every website that we visit and every post that we make. As for talking to the cops, don't, you just give them more ammo to use against you.

Yeah, he knows better than to talk to the cops.
I have already erased all temp internet files, cookies, and history as well as any bookmarks that may look suspicious. I certainly won't be logging on at work anymore. Of course, that means I will be spending much less time here now.
It was convenient to set up my reactions in the morning and surf around while waiting on them to complete.
As for IT ratting him out, why would they wait so long? He hasn't worked there for nearly 8 months (I talked to him yesterday). I am worried that I may be under investigation as well. It's not like they would warn me or anything and I did spend more time on the boards than he did by far. Also, they asked him if he knew anyone else in the University who visited EF (Of course he said NO). I can't imagine that my online activity would have escaped their attention while his was flagged. I mean, he may have visited EF 4 or five times total and not all of those from work. He never visited any other BB boards I know of.Spidey is a fictional character. Spidey,
It's so obvious. With the crack down, and the NCAA up in arms, the IT deparment is in search of the ****** to all of their athletes, they are trying to save people from themselves.
Just kidding, overall it's a weird deal.
If it gives you any comfort in college I dealt things on the side, and I was one of few folks who had a phone in their room, this was 20 + years ago. Only folks who called were folks needing service, no one else, never put number down on a form etc.
One morning in a stupor got a call, nice enough lady says she works for the IRS in philedelphia, and I need to send her my last years income tax.
Weirdest call I ever got, who the heck even knew where I was, and how did they get number. Needless to say put the returns in the mail and never heard a peep again.
Take a deep breath and relaxe, you should be fine.

nothing can be used against him unless a federal warrant was signed by a judge. Also, even if there was a warrant, nothing could be prosecuted criminally. However, in his contract he did probably sign a waiver allowing the university to monitor his web site trafficing. They could try to terminate him, but that wouldn't be very easy to do as what he was doing wasn't exactly illegal per se.
So long as he doesn't talk to anyone or give any more information it will stay that he "allegedly" viewed questionable information.
