Articles a bit overrated. Not sure its really kenw to anyone but I agree with Nandi when he says

I would not throw out my whey based on that article. Both proteins have their place in an athlete's or bodybuilder's diet. Whey's fast delivery is probably beneficial, contrary to Thoburn's reasoning, when ingested before or immediately after a workout. The former is superior, according to the often cited research by Tipton et al (1). It's just not practical to try to time your casien intake to maximize plasma amino acid levels when exercise induced blood flow to muscle is greatest. (Note that the study by Tipton measures protein synthesis, not long term muscle growth, so as Thoburn acknowledges with his casein research, one cannot necessarily conclude the former leads to the latter, but the data are suggestive.)

We have also seen animal data presented here suggesting that alpha lactalbumin enriched whey taken before cardio increases muscle mass, whereas whole milk protein before cardio increases fat mass. (2)

Timing of amino acid-carbohydrate ingestion alters anabolic response of muscle to resistance exercise.

A preexercise alpha-lactalbumin-enriched whey protein meal preserves lipid oxidation and decreases adiposity in rats.

*** I don't see any corelation in terms of this reference that was used. In the study it clearly states that the session took place under a fasted condition and that the subjects were given 6 grams of AA's.

"The amounts of essential amino acids in a 500-ml bolus EAC solution were (mg and µmol, respectively) histidine 0.65, 4.2; isoleucine 0.60, 4.6; leucine 1.12, 8.5; lysine 0.93, 6.4; methionine 0.19, 1.3; phenylalanine 0.93, 5.6; threonine 0.88, 7.4; and valine 0.7, 6.0. Additionally, 0.0605 g of L-[ring-2H5]phenylalanine was added to the solution to maintain isotopic steady state."

YellowJacket, seeing as you agree with Nandi, maybe you can chime in here.

Whey's fast delivery is probably beneficial, contrary to Thoburn's reasoning, when ingested before or immediately after a workout. The former is superior, according to the often cited research by Tipton et al (1).

Additionally, 0.0605 g of L-[ring-2H5]phenylalanine was added to the solution to maintain isotopic steady state."

This means that if you take a closer look at the study being referenced you will note that the study was done under fasted conditions, and used a blend of specific amino acids and a specific dose.

Can you explain how this relates to Thoburn's article and what he's saying?

You come into a thread, throw in a copy and paste post and then fail to defend it. Way to back your words up YelloJacket.

Its actually "YellowJacket" and I think the post speaks for itself. You said "you might want to reconsider buying whey protein" and defended it with what? If you're discrediting whey protein based on that article, I suggest you get a basic handle on nutrition before you attempt to help others. This article changes nothing for me. What I pastes was self explainatory. Im not sure if english is your first language but you did a poor job of adequately expressing what you wanted answered.

You should check your spelling before flaming somebody about their English.

Dont mistake a typo for a spelling error in hopes to be funny.

Explainatory is a mispelling not a typo. Not trying to be funny just stating the facts. :p
