  • Increasing punching power?

Anyone know any training regimins to increase punching explosiveness? I have access to 100 lb heavy bag

Try pollymetrics...they improve speed and explosivness. there are also resistance bands that you can wear will hitting the bag. Both should give you a significant increase in speed/power

Great thread but I think that this would do better in the "Training" forum.

Punching power is a matter of total body coordinations IMO but if you want an upper body routine for exposive power, try this link.

Explosive power comes from correct alignment and constant practice. What are you training for, Martial Arts or boxing?

            You want a source:
            1. Do a search.
            2. Read everyword
            3. Then ask yourself do I still need a source. If the answer is yes.
            4. Repeat steps 1-3
            5. Dont pm me saying you did what I said now can I give you a source or tell you how to get one. The answer is no!

I've just always liked working out on the bad - never had any real boxing training, but I assume there is a correct technique, like hitting a baseball. I was wondering if there are any ways to develop the technique and application?

left and right hooks high will work your upper lats, rear delts rombus(spelling), tri's. left and right hooks to the body will work your lower lats, and break peoples ribs lol My fav. lol Thats your pwoer shit bud.....Now grab your self a speed bag....oh yeah love that shit......This will increas your speed IMO. If your a righty work on your speed for your left, go two left one right. Shit i get pumped just thinking of it...lol. Your left jab will get so fast bud, sets up the hooks. The speed bag can help with you crosses as well. Good luck....Oh yeah.....grab a 200 lb heavy bud! Shit 100 lbs would be hitting the roof lol

I am with these guys. The speed of your punch can be increased by slightly rotating your fist thumb down just before impact. Your body alignment and the use of your hips makes a drastic difference in the power of your elbows, kicks, punches, knees. Don't just punch using your arm strength, swivel your hips and transfer your weight.
If you have a bag then maybe go to a month of formal Muay Thai or boxing training to just get the idea and then you can do the routines at home. Or if you like the classes you might want to stay in them. They are both a great cardio workout to say the least.

I defintely agree with these guys. First you need to get the technique down and practice, only then can you add resistance training for optimal results.

My old boxing coach always told me that punchers are born not made. I agree to a certain extent, the snappier (if that is a word) the punch the more knock out power you should have. So i would say work on you speed and form. shadow boxing is great for that also very arobic alows you to look at you form. Also alot of the punching strength come from the legs if you are in the right stance you legs work somewhat like a spring it is hard for me to explain in words but easily shown.............I love boxing
