Lately my shoulders be hurting bad. Had to back off a ton of weight on bench presses and shoulder presses this week. Could it be arthritis? Are there any good supps that help achy joints? Or is glucosamine chondroitin the main thing to take?

Re: I think I'm getting old
wear and tear my friend. I have been training hard almost 30 years. I have had to throttle it back a lot. at one point i was massive now I am a skinny fellow and my body appreciates it. I miss heavy squats and deads and bench. but as we get older we have to train smarter.

Re: I think I'm getting old
oh i forgot my supps.
BCAAs morning, night and after training keeps my old ass anti catabolic
Beta alanine buffers acids in the muscle after training and helps endurance
fish oil, I take a lot of fish oil. it helps joints and is good for your cardio system and brain
creatine one of the best supps you can get
the last is melatonin. sleep is more important to folks over 40 who train. it takes more time to get half of the recovery of a young man or woman. sleep recovery is way important.
as for joints glucosamine condroitin are real good but it take a while to work, also many times it is not the joint but the tendons and ligaments that hurt and it will not help in that case.

Re: I think I'm getting old
The 4th decade has been most challenging, for me, and the 5th is around the corner. With age comes more things, and this is why modifying training can be a good thing. Also, even more important to stay on a good eating track. I make sure I get my good fats as I feel it helps my joints. Turmeric is a great anti inflammatory and is actually a good thing to add post workoutVeritas Vos Liberabit

Thanks, jipped, I'm on most of those just have to add the glucosamine and chondroitin.
Baby, I'm gonna look into the turmeric.
The orange triad also looks promising.
Someone else suggested something called adequan but it's made for vet use and it's not cheap. Something else called Aflutop. Guess I'll start trying things till I get some results.

i feel your pain, brothers and sisters. i'm 41 and i'm having major problems with my shoulders. i think it's bursitis and/or arthritis. they hurt all the time, especially my left one. i got to the point where i was benching 285 for a few reps a couple of months ago, but i had to dial it back because of this persistent problem, and it seems to be getting worse even though i've cut back on the poundages. i think i need some serious time off from training the upper body, which sucks. i hate to take time off.

Re: I think I'm getting old
In the same boat fellas. I have no cartilage left in one shoulder with pulled tendons and something... I forget..haha. TRT with a slight deca kicker has done wonders for pain and general use. I do worry if more damage will come but figure I'll take it a day at a time and keep moving forward. I haven't got back to the 300s yet in benching and heavy squats are tuff because of the bar digs in hard but I'll keep pshing till I get back to where I was. Its what we do. Good luck
