  • glycemic index

i was looking at a couple of food lists with their glycemic index and i found that every list had a diferent value and that on each list there was like 5 diferent kinds of long grain rice without being specific ranging from 50- 70 . what the hell ,how am i suppose to know ?

According to one list it states that pasta is lower then long grain rice (parboiled) .I didnt think pasta a low GI food .
I thought fruits were high but they are not that bad .All around 40-60 .Is all this shit right or am i looking at a fucked up list .

    Thanks

GI is calculated on a carb only meal, so i dont put too much stock into it.

Not sure if im getting what your saying, but mixed meal (which most of us eat, c,p, + f) alter the GI of the meal signifigantly. So i dont put too much stalk in the whole GI chart

so how do you determine which carb to eat then. Isnt it all about insulin release ?

generally the lower the GI the better, they have a more sustained relsease, try to stick under 100, but alwyas eat with some protein and a bit of fat, unless its post workout, than you want a high GI carb like dextrose or malodextrin, and a fast acting protein such as whey isolate

just checking. Post w/o I'll drink my dextrose and wait a bit befor my protien drink. Don't know if it helps or not?

drink at the same time, or protein first, so the dextrose spikes the blood levels as the protein is digesting

another reason i laugh at the glycemic index is carrots. They score very high, like a 90 something if i remeber, but they are chockful of vitamins and antioxidants, but whoever got fat from eating a bunch of carrots?

good point ,about the carrots pro.

So would you worry about eating white riceor basmati or would you stay away from it and stick to brown(i dont like brown as much) .I always eat it with chicken or beef ?

Anyways thanks for the imput pro

white rice or basamati is fine IMO, if you look at Lee Priest's precontest diet, he eats pretty high glycemic carbs such as white rice, cream of wheat, and grits.

It was recomended to me to wash the rice after I cook it. Rince the starch off?

You may get some of the residual starch off, but it will still be a starch, alls your washing off is the starch cooked off the rice and collected back on it. The rice itself is a starch. I guess it wouldnt hurt though.

You eat three things all of which are low on the chart.. you have a low gi based meal..
I don't see where anything would change

first time i heard of eating carbs and protien seperate was suzan ******* lol I know the nutrients are absorbed in the intestinal walls. Once the intestinal walls are full the rest gets passed and stored in other places. Does the intestinal walls know which to take, if there is no efa's will that leave room for more pro's, for example, or carbs, or is it first come first serve? I don't think I could ever eat this way, really just something to talk about.
