  • Trigeminal neuralgia

Seeing my neurologist tomorrow, but this is pretty much what he is thinking. I have had facial pain, burning, numbness, almost daily for over a year. I already take an anti seizure med for complex partial seizures. Adding migraines to it now, that make me vomit and put me down for a few days. The doc gave me a migraine med that actually took my face pain away along with the migraine. The last thing I want is another med but what I have noticed is certain things in my diet make this worse. I have seen the word "vasodilator" thrown around on here a lot and something like that is exactly what I cannot have. Are there certain dietary things that cause vasodilation that anyone knows of? Increase in prostaglandins also dilates the vessels. This is all bad for my condition. I will do more research on dietary affects but thought someone might know something. I know my doc will want to put me on anther med and the migraine med that helped is considered a "rescue" med so it isn't something I can be on daily anyway

food that are full of nitrates are the only things i am aware of that causes vasodialiton. beets and veges and fruits like that are def ones you should try to avoid then. i am pretty sure that cranberries are another that falls into the same type of food. those two are the only ones that i know of off the top of my head. i will have to take a look back and some papers i read last month for the others that were mentioned. i am adding beets into my diet more myself for the heart health and vaso benefits, that's why i was looking at them.

        Re: Trigeminal neuralgia

I have eliminated nitrate foods pretty much exclusively. I feel I am getting closer to answers that no doc would have ever came to with me and I understand that. Thanks for your help guns. Unfortunately I have been learned that even foods good for me cause me this pain. Sis is coming over tonight and I am hooking up with her dietician for sure. My BP runs pretty low to so I actually need things that do the opposite of most of what I see members here in need of. This is NOT an easy thing for me to put out here cause I keep to myself and find my own answers but I know I may find some here to. Even my lil tribe here doesn't know how I feel most of the time. Always trying to stay positive cause I have to be a good mama!

Along with the symptoms, I have had a low grade fever for almost a year everyday, all day. Saw a doc the other day and she said, that is common in people with seizures...I just listened and said some things in my head. Not a fan on most docs, lol. thinking of knocking on my Asian neighbors door and I better he would help me more than any docs have.

Maybe a chinese medicine person could help. There are a lot of things that american doctors know nothing about. How about a naturopathic doctor? I dont know much about naturopaths but some people swear by them. Has acupuncture helped?

I am scheduling an appointment to see my sisters doc who takes a holistic approach. I have not done acupuncture but I get my massages regularly. Tomorrow for 80 minutes....ahhhh!lol
