A normal heart pumping efficiency is 60 - 70%. Because of this a-fib I went through in Feb mine is 48%. I do not want to rely on blood thinners the rest of my life. My question is what exercises will get my pumping efficiency where it should be? I think I need cardio for sure but what duration and what intensity?
Do you all think this will do it? And finally if I work on it 3 to 4 days a week how long to get it from 48% to above 60%?
i would speak to a cardio doc about your limits first dirt and then get their suggestion on output and duration. for normal training you want to be in a 140-180 zone for 15-30 minutes depending on age for an increase in performance. most people's fat burning zone is between 120-140 so staying just above that would be just a tad over that. once cleared by the doc man i would work intervals of 30sec to 1 min high out put followed by 2-3min low out put on an eliptical or step mill. i use this very effectively to get my cardio up higher and i get in a good workout 3-4 times per week in 15-20 min sessions
I will talk to cardio doc and see what he says. I am going to hire a personal trainer that specialize in my type of situation. Today though I got HR to 136 and held it for 8 minutes. My legs gave out but heart and lungs were fine. I did talk to a trainer I will hire she says realistic I can get back to the 60% to 70% range in 6 months or less.

oh yeah man, that is completely realistic goal and time frame. you should have no issues at all achieving it. only reason why i said to talk to the cardio doc is they may give you where you actually want to be without putting yourself at risk. that's the biggest concern cause you dont want to over stress it and mess yourself up or worse
Thanks I am going to try the HITR like you said. High Intensity followed by short rest. I will still do strength training but my heart comes first in my book.
Here is an update. The other day I got a call from the cardiologist about my latest heart test. My heart went down to 48% pumping efficiency where normal is 65%. I went on a HIIT cardio training to improve my heart. The cardio doc says it will not improve doing this. I respectfully disagreed with him and continued with my training. Truthfully I have lost so muscle mass because I was concentrating on improving my heart. Well it went from 48% to 60% in a relatively short time. I will be adding CoQ10 also in hopes it will help. For sure it can't hurt
Anything is possible. Just have a objective. Then small obtainable goals. Yes at times it may not seem you are not going to reach your objective. Then it is time to re-evaluate your goals to make them more realistic. The main thing is never give up and keep trrying.
Got weighed by endo doc today. I have lost 20# since July since I started the HIT training for my heart. I have lost some lean mass but not much. Most of it has been fat. Arms are very veiny. The nurse that drew my blood said she can throw the needle at me and hit a vein. My arms are a nurses orgasm.
I got my thyroid out yesterday. They took only one side, The remaining side is good. The one they took had a 6 cm goiter. My neck ids sore today.
The VA put me up in a Ramada Inn near the hospital for free so I can get to surgery easy.
