chemical ablation of the thyroid

I am due to get a chemical ablation of my thyroid due to what the called a thyroid storm (goiter went ballistic)
It caused a host of problems for me. I won't go into detail ATM
The want me to take a radioactive iodine to ablate my thyroid. Is this a good idea or is surgery better?
Will it nuke my whole thyroid or the goiter?
When in the doctor office I forget to ask these things

dirt as you know i am damn sure not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination and could be completely wrong but i believe that procedure will wipe them both out. again i am going off prob something i saw on the news on one of the cancer doctor programs

I would think it would get rid of both? My aunt had this done years ago and has taken thyroid replacement ever since. I would suggest calling the doc, or seeing him before, and go over these questions with him You need to know all risk and such beforehand, imo
