Anyone ever been diagnosed with this? If so, what is being done for it?

    Re: Ulcerative Colitis

My cousin has it, there are meds. for it, but they're expensive. Mostly you have to watch what you eat extremely close and try to stay stress free. Thats about all you can do short of surgery.

My cousin takes humira, and it helps her. I think you can get help to pay for it.

            Re: Ulcerative Colitis

I was diagnosed with it probably 17 years ago. My problems began not long after I got back from a trip to Mexico and got very ill. I'm not sure if it was a parasite I contracted while in Mexico or what actually caused it. Living with UC was horrible. I was prescribed a steroid to take daily (to reduce inflammationof the intestines) and was told I'd most likely be on it for the rest of my life. After taking the steroid for probably 2 or more years, I totally changed my life style and diet. Since then, I've been off all UC prescribed meds and have had no symptoms. I wouldn't wish UC on my worst enemy. It is very difficult to live with. I think I'm on of the lucky ones that changing my lifestyle and diet was all I needed. Others aren't so fortunate. Hope this helped. I can go into more detail about symptoms and my experience in a pm.

My brother has it. Between that and his allergies he was out of work for 8 months. He wasn't getting any better because they thought all his problems where from allergies. He dropped from 240 to 185. He's on a lot of meds now but he got his weight back to 220. Completely revolutionized the way he eats. I adopted his whole food eating mentality and I feel way better than I ever have. I don't think I have it but that diet is a hell of a lot better for my guts than anything I've ever done before.

So are either of you guys or your friends going gluten free? I have talked to a few and for some reason they have not stressed a sound nutrition plan. I also dont think they put him on Humira. The used pregnazon to try to know out the inflammation.

I haven't talked to her in a while but i remember, she can't eat very fibrous foods because they irritate the walls of the colon. Don't know about gluten
