Depends what food. I pay $32 for 76 servings with 23g of protien, so thats $2.38 a meal. Now I buy my boneless/skinless at Walmart for $1.97/lb so thats 4 servings of apprx 23g so you have $0.49 there + I add seasoning that costs about .50 and a little oil so maybe .50 so all together a $1.50 for that. Steak is another story though. However even with the chicken I eat it with something else so my one meal you have to add lettuce and a wrap and that brings it up to a little over $2. However like I had said earlier you can get huge, lean, or maintain with majority coming from a shake. You can also do it with real food, evan centropani is a big protien from food advocate. But majority of Pro's from what Ive heard are more likely to slam down 80g of a shake and then a shit ton of junk food with it.

I don't really think of protein shakes as a "meal replacement" though. If you add in the entire cost of a meal compared to a protein shake, I can see the food being more.

As far as the pro's go, I would imagine they would have to drink shakes because of the large amount of calories they are taking in. With my lower calories, 2600 at the highest, I could do it either way really. It is a lot easier to use the shakes, so I may just stick with them. I have been doing a zig zag style diet the last month and have lost weight but I am getting tired of weighing out my stuff and counting every calorie so I may experiment a little with my own way of doing things without weighing and what not. If I do, I will keep the protein shakes in there too so that's the reason for all of my questions.

Where do you guys get your protein?

Everyone is different. I am sure not telling everyone to just drink protein drinks instead of food. I am saying I have done it, and the only effects from it was I was the leanest I have ever been and I took 1st place in a statebbcompetition. Of course I was working out all day long. I had my own gym at the time and would work out for a few minutes every hour or two while I was at work.I realize thats not practical for most people, but I still believe in short bursts of extreme all out effort spread out throughout the day with a constant supply of high quality protein.. I learned that from the bulgarians and other eastern european lifters

If anyone has ever read Guytons Physiology, theres a section in there about the dynamic effects of protein ingestion on metabolism. Its amazing how much it elevates compared to fat and carbs

i drink only 3 shakes ed , like you baby, i get bloating from to many shakes. i look like i got growth gut when i drink just one. i have about 275grams protein through shakes ed then real food to 400 . it can be taxing on your kidneys to wright baby1 if to much protein? but i most deffinitly agree w/ u baby on this also. we are like twins we agree on alot of things from my part anyway.

I've changed my routine since this thread started.. Down to 1 shake ED post workout. Been eating at least 4-5lbs of grilled chicken every day. So there isn't much supplement my protein intake.

Re: How Many Protein Shakes ED??

I have done as many as 6-8 per day when my protein intake goal was 600-700g a day. I just got tired of eating solid food and used a shake with 75g of protein and took fish oil to slow absorption. Now I try to limit it to 3 a day. I stay home with my six month old daughter, trying to make a solid meal and watch her don't go together. So, when she has a bottle, I do too.
