I was thinking today, if Muscle Milk has 18gs of fat per serving and only 32gs protien, should I be mixing it with 25gs of dextrose and 25gs of maltodextrin for my PWO shake? Seems like it would be better for post workout to just take a good whey protien along with the simple carbs. Just a thought.

A 100% whey isolate would be better though, but we are splitting hairs here.

muscle milk is great. it tastes awesome. that being said, i don't think it is the ideal shake for folks who are trying to get into shape.
i drink the hell out of it during the fall and winter, but if i want to keep my bodyfat low it's a no-no.
and i definitely don't think you should add simple carbs to it like dextrose. fat + carbs = no-no
in my own experience, a PWO shake with water, protein powder, and dextrose seems to work the best. i get the insulin spike from the dex, which forces the protein in the muscles and gives me a good rush as well.
i think the best thing i have ever learned about diet was to never combine fat + carbs in the same meal. i cannot tell you what a difference this has made in my physique!
if you want to stay lean, meals should either be fat + protein or carbs + protein. this includes your shakes.

Re: Muscle Milk or Whey for PWO shake?
The reason you don't want fats in your PWO shake is because fats, or lipids, are very slow digesting. And, the stomach won't start letting things into the intestines until they are ready tobe absorbed. It's all part of the gastric emptying times. The more food you consume, the slower the digestion, the more fats you consume, the slower the times. Even in liquid meals, fat will slower the digestion time. My suggestion is you get a high whey protein low fat powder and add your glucose to it. Whey will digest and absord quicky and the glucose will carry the protein to the muscle cells.
On another note, if you can find predigested whey protein it will digest even faster because the predigested whey is already broken down into dipeptides and tripeptides. This is the only size of peptide the intestines will absorb. So, for future referance, eat a whole food meal soon after your PWO shake or else you will have a big dip in your blood levels of aminos and glucose.
