Where does everyone buy their Dextrose?

I don't use it but I believe 1fast400.com has it for cheap. Good service too.

Dextrose is good when taking creatine, helps absorb into muscle

You can use powdered gatoride until you order something online again. Definitely not ideal though.

So won't any other carb source.

I buy it at a local brewers store. Less than $5 for 5 lbs.

Assuming that you are drinking it and not injecting it IV - What is the benefit of dextrose over plain table sugar when you are using it post workout? Is it because Dextrose is hypertonic and sucrose is isotonic?

I'll say yes, faster absorb rate with dextrose (hypertonic).

"Chris, don't listen to your sister. Sticking your finger down your throat doesn't make you throw up..." I watched that episode last night!!

                        Great avi bro!!

By the way, check out vitargo CGL... it's what i use. It's pricey, but effective. (finish what you got first though for sure, it's not THAT big of a difference.)

Theres a link to check it out, but i would buy it from somewhere cheaper if you can find it.
I run suicide drills over and over with the weight of the world on my shouders... I'm far from being god, but i work god damn hard.

Dextrose has a higher GI level(actually it's the highest at 100 on the GI scale)then common table sugar, meaning you'll get a better insulin spike.

                            Sucrose = 50% glucose (dextrose is d-glucose), 50% fructose

To put it simply, fructose is bad, for multiple reasons

Sorry if my question wasn’t clear. My question has absolutely nothing to do with the deleterious properties of sucrose/fructose in the diet. I’m well aware of the negatives of fructose and that it should not be an integral part of your diet.

I am only considering the difference between isotonic, hypertonic, and even hypotonic post workout drinks and their osmolality.

There are osmo-receptors present in the small intestine that feed back information to the stomach. If these receptors are registering a high-osmolality fluid (hypertonic), they will instruct the stomach to slow down its emptying. Also, high-osmolality fluids cause delays in gastric emptying and will also cause fluid shifts from the body to the gut before absorption occurs. Solutions that are isotonic have the same osmotic potential as our own body fluids, and are not slowed by osmo-receptors. Essentially, your body equalizes the absorption rate of fluids regardless of their osmolality.

Basically, when you are ingesting these different types of carbohydrate solutions (isotonic or hypertonic), I think that the difference between them is negligible at best. Obviously, intravenous infusion would be another story altogether.

I am far from being an expert on this subject, so I may be missing something, and could be completely off base. There is so much contradictory information out there on this subject that it is hard to sort it out. Personally, I have never noticed any significant difference between hypertonic and isotonic solutions; at least, nothing that I could quantify in any way.

I didn’t mean to hijack your thread, ogarchamplin. I should have started a new one. Sorry about that.
