  • creatine monohydrate and kidney function

Excess creatine is released into the blood stream as creatinine which is a biomaker for kidney function. My question is creatine harmful to the kidneys or just elevate the biomarkers?

Creatine is probably the safest supp out there. It just increases markers and will not mess with kidneys. I take 10 grams on training days and 5 on non training days and mine kidney values were all perfect.

what jipped said is 100% on point. it is the most studied and researched supplement on the market. it even provides some heart health protections. now with that said, if i had serious kidney issues like kidney disease or kidney failure i may not use it. not saying i wouldnt but i would def talk to a modern level headed kidney doc before possibly putting more stress on my kidneys. that would be just out of over cautiousness. i got a buddy that has only one functioning kidney and it's function is semi-compromised and he still uses hrt plus and creatine and other supplements with no issues but that's not to say he is the rule and not the exception

Creatine even helps your brain. Who'd have thought that just thinking hard on something requires more brain ATP.

Re: creatine monohydrate and kidney function

Excess creatine usually just raises creatinine levels in the blood, which is a marker for kidney function. For most healthy people, taking creatine in recommended amounts doesn’t harm the kidneys.
