Great article. I've worked out with a few of my friends who I swear I thought was gonna od on caffeine from some of those pre workout drinks they were drinking. I stay far away from anything other than a cup of coffee or even the occasional diet drink before my workout.
I mean, if you're doing mad cardio like I like to do, there's no need to go into the workout with your heart rate already almost exploding

Re: Can you overdose on caffeine?

Coffee is my preworkout and the only source of caffeine for me unless I take Excedrin for a headache, which I do occasionally. I do not drink coffee OR take excedrin after noon time as a general rule (unless I'm on night shift, in which case the cutoff time is more like 9pm). Nevertheless, I do drink way too much coffee... Always 3 cups in the morning; often 4 and sometimes 5. Lately I've been making 50/50 with decaf...

When I first started training, preworkout drinks were carbohydrate based for energy; not stimulant based. At least not as far as I know, anyway. TwinLabs CarboFuel was what I used back then (I am talking about 30 years ago).

Since then, I've changed my thinking on carbs, too, but that's a totally different topic...

I drank a redline after drinking half a pot of coffee. I was shaking violently like a methhead and was so nauseous. I cannot imagine those folk who pound those big size energy drinks one after another.

On weekends I often try to get 48 hours caffeine free. This morning I woke up with a mild headache, possibly a withdrawal symptom, maybe not. Headache cleared up with CBD
