BJ:"Edgar won't run his way to a win this time"

Former UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn has found motivation for his upcoming rematch against the man who took his belt, Frankie Edgar, in the fact that he doesn't believe Edgar deserved to take his belt. In a recent UFC-released promo for their impending UFC 118 scrap, Penn says that Edgar did more moving than fighting and that in their second meeting he will not allow the fight to go to the judges so that Edgar and his team can persuade themselves into a victory.
"He's running around," said Penn. "Just step up and fight. And then I see his whole team run and pick him up. All your boys put you on their shoulders and dance you around in front of the judges and try to steal the victory. I'm not gonna be a part of that. Whatever, man. That's the man you are. You're the Ultimate Fighting Champion? Okay. I got you. It's a joke."

Penn is one of the most accomplished lightweights in the sport and is widely considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound competitors to ever lace up a pair of four ounce gloves. The proud Hawaiian believes that Edgar is only going to try to improve on the game plan that he implemented the first time around and that it won't be enough to stop "The Prodigy."

"I'm not afraid to exchange with him in any way," said Penn. "I don't think he wants to exchange with me. He's going to be running around. He's just going to try to jazz up what he did last time. A little quicker, a little better, maybe throw in a little kick. His corner, they don't have much to work with. They've just got little Frankie Edgar. They don't have the knockout king or the submission king. They've just got Frankie Edgar."

The fact that Penn seems fired up about this fight only makes it that much more of a tantalizing fight. The fight is going down at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

I hope BJ is truly pumped for this fight. If he does, Edgar is in some trouble.

Bottom line a healthy BJ will win.Because we all know now BJ cardio isnt a factor anymore

I dont know, BJs cardio still wont be as good as Frankies IMO. I think BJ is better, but he needs to chase Frankie down and beat him up instead of just standing in the middle of the ring like most of last fight. BJ should win.......

I'm not sayin BJs isnt good, i just think Frankies is very good. Its really his only very strong point IMO. I think he is a well rounded fighter who happens to posses superior cardio. I mean look at the fight with BJ; Frankie literally never stopped bouncing around for 25 straight mins. I'm just saying BJ needs to just go grab Frankies azz and beat him down or else i could see Frankie just darting in and out for strikes like last time which is prob what he wants to do.

Your right BJ has to take him down but I think Bj has adjusted to where this time in the stand up BJ will be even more quicker but BJ will take it to Edgar this time

Edgar does have quite a bit better cardio than BJ and I am a BJ fan. BJ has good cardio now, but not as good as Frankie. BJ just needs to cut the ring off this time. He needs to take some angles instead of allowing Frankie to continuously run circles around him. BJ is fast enough to cut the ring off. Once that is done, it's just a matter of time before the KO or takedown and submission occur.

Fact is that based on his credentials BJ Penn is one of the most gifted and talented mixed martial artists in history. I guess when you are that good you can get a big head and overlook people like Frankie which I think he did. Sometimes I wish someone would just slap BJ into reality and get him to realize that if he stayed focused EVERY time he went out..and EVERY training session he might be the best mixed martial artist ever. I have no idea the stresses and pressure of that sport so its easy for me to say that, but as a HUGE Penn fan I just hope he gets it together and gets back to dominating opponents!

well he was dominating oppnts as of late but since edgar danced around the ring the judges gave it to him. But what I just dont get is the fight stat when a fighter out onuches you out lands you and loses I just think thats wrong. But when BJ fights him in a few weeks I will know how well bj does by just looking at him walking in. His last fight with frankie when he walked in you can tell there was something wrong he looked tired and his eyes were all puffy and dark

The thing is that BJ has always been able to beat the guys and not train right. So instead of dedicating 100% if his life to the sport, he has just done what he wanted to between fights. If he would train as hard and be as dedicated as most fighters, he would easily be the best fighter in MMA and gave two belts around his waist

Yea thats what im saying!...hopefully he is focused and ready to go against Frankie! Thats the only BJ fight ive missed and I was Shocked to read that he lost when I got back from my trip!

I agree BJ could be the best P4P if he trained as hard as some of the other top guys. But I still dont think he could win the WW title, or at least would not be favored too (yes, anybody can win at any time). But certainly he would crush the LW division and beat most of the WWs as well.
