“Technically wise I think if they put everything together I think BJ [is the best fighter in the world]. I would love to have my hands on a guy like BJ. As far as the stuff that he can do and pull off. That’s a guy that can knock you out or submit you whatever he wants to do. If you make a mistake he’ll drop you and if you make a mistake on the ground and leave an arm he will pull an arm bar.”

Bas “El Guapo” Rutten responds to the Tapout Live Radio crew when asked who he thinks the best fighter in the world is. This is an opinion that a lot of MMA Insiders share. Based on technical ability and raw, god given talent, BJ Penn is the best fighter in the world and has set the example of what all up and coming fighters strive to be like. The Famed Fighter, turned MMA coach also said he hopes to share some knowledge with BJ as he prepares for his upcoming UFC 118 bout against Frankie Edgar.

everyone thought kimbo was going places with all the hard work he did and he learned. And he showed signs of improving even dana thought kimbo improved. But if you think bas rutten is wrong then get your head checked.Atleast BJ is a all around fighter not like gsp who is only a 1 dementional fighter. He has no stand up.

GSP is certainly not 1 dimentional..... he has incredible wrestling and really good BJJ as well as good striking. he just isnt dumb enough to stand and strike when his other tools are so much superior. he learned his lesson with serra

chuck liddell has good BJJ...... just because you dont see it dosnt mean he is one dimentional

Bad said kimbo would be something if he stayed and trained with him. He wouldn't listen to bas and bas let him go. He would have been much better if he would have listened to bas

sure he has good things but jipp until he can win on his feet and prove he can knock people out he will never be the best .

Anderson is the best fighter hands down. He can dominate top flight opponents in multiple weight classes and hasn't lost in forever. Until he loses a couple fights, in my opinion, he will be the most talented fighter.

As big of a BJ fan as I am, I would have to agree with this statement. I think that Anderson could go to LHW and win the belt if he wanted to. BJ held the belt in both weight classes and that is a big accomplishment. Not to mention fighting in weight classes as high as LHW. But I think Anderson has to top the list. Just because of his win streak and record, etc... I mean the guy just plays with his opponents in MW, these are the top fighters in the class and he makes them look like nothing.

I am the opposite on this too. I hope Anderson makes an example out of Sonnen. As much talk as Sonnen has done lately (and his entire career) about Anderson, if Anderson destroys him, Sonnen will be done. Sonnen's ONLY chance is to get it to the ground and keep Anderson from stalling him out, which is very hard to do. Anderson has a good guard. To be honest, I just don't so many ways at all that Sonnen can win.

At first, I was beginning to like Sonnen because he was funny. Now he has well surpassed Frank Mir in talking trash (especially for someone that hasn't really done anything) and I can't stand to hear him talk now. I hope Anderson comes out and shows 100% of his arsenal and not only makes Sonnen look like a joke, but I hope Anderson takes this one personal and puts the beating of a lifetime on Sonnen.

Sonnen likes to say that he has plaques on his wall that says he can take Anderson down....so what? Then what? Henderson couldn't do anything with him either and Anderson has done nothing but get better since then.

It doesnt look like anderson got better with the sheilds fight,he did look good with bisping but sucked with sheilds. And as i'm reading all these mma boards I cant understand sometimes why people get so upset at a fighter who likes to trash talk. The trash talk doesnt have anything to do on our lives but I see people hate other fighters because they trash talk,so what if they trash talk its just talk. remember the saying when we were kids

Are you talking about Henderson in the Shields and Bisping fight? I am saying that Anderson has done nothing but get better. I don't understand the Bisping and Shields thing??

It's not that I hate him or am taking it personal, I just like to see people that bash other fighters get what they deserve. The way I look at it is, if you are going to talk that much trash, you better be able to back it up. And it's not even just Anderson. I read an interview where he just trashed the guy giving the interview and just acted like an a**. That has nothing to do with hyping a fight...that is just being a d***.

The main reason I want Anderson to make an example out of him is mainly because of the criticism that Anderson has been receiving even when he walks through guys and makes them look 10 steps behind. I love watching Anderson fight. He is the most talented fighter I have seen in years. It just amazes me when he starts bringing out multiple disciplines in the fight that he has never shown before. I mean in the Maia fight, the guy was using Capoeira! How many fighters in the UFC can do that? I agree with Joe Rogan saying that Anderson is the modern day Bruce Lee, and I am a huge Bruce Lee fan. Anderson is just brilliant in his fights.

And I like the trash talk...otherwise I wouldn't like Mir and BJ. But you can take it too far as Mir and Sonnen have both done in the past.
