TweetWhen you develop fears and phobias, one of the things they say to do is to face your fear. It may not work right away but if you keep at it, you may conquer your fear.
TweetSo I have noticed over the years that I have developed a fear of heights. This wasn't an issue when I was a kid as we used to always ride coasters, climb on top of houses and jump off, climb tall trees, etc....But now, a lot of stuff that has to do with heights is not an option for me.
We just came back from Destin not too long ago. While there, we did this rope park thing where you put a harness on, lock it into a flat bar so it won't fall, and you proceed to go across rope trails, nets, etc....this was about 2 or 3 stories high and I did that just fine. Then I turn around and won't go parasailing or anything.
What is up with this? How can I fix it? When heights come into the equation now, it's like I about have a panic attack or something. It is very frustrating as I have always been a person that LOVES anything that would give me an adrenaline rush. Now if I watch a dang Blue Angels movie on Imax I get this panic attack feeling. What do I do?

TweetMy issue is the panic attack feeling about it. I sometimes get as bad as feeling like I'm going to pass out. The fear of that getting worse is what keeps me from facing it.

TweetHope that doesn't happen to me! Im an electrician im always wayyyyy up in the ceiling of steel mills and auto plants
LIFT BIG, EAT BIG, GET BIG!
TweetI have the exact same thing. I used to climb up on the roof and go running along the edge. No fear whatsoever. Now I got a messed up gutter on my house and I try to get on the ladder to fix it and just get all wigged out and climb back down. It really sucks. I have heard it is common to get a fear of heights later in life. I have heard too many stories of guys falling off their roof and getting killed or paralyzed, so it is a realistic fear. Maybe if I had someone hold the ladder for me, I dunno.
Tweetit isn't the fear of heights it's the fear of falling! maybe.... i have that crap too, i use to work residential construction framing houses and doing interior trim and everything else and all the houses i worked on were 4000 + sq. ft. homes with cathedral ceilings and 30 ft foyers and all that crap and climbing around all that stuff up and down latters and scaffolding and walk boards did not use to be a problem, after nearly getting killed in a car wreck some years ago i started getting phobic about climbimg ladders and getting on roofs and up un open joyce ceilings, i had to climb a latter at work at my new job to hand a sign 15ft. in the air and it made me nervous as hell! I think it is natural that with time we realize some adrenaline is worth it anymore and realize that we have a lot we will leave behind if something were to happen, that thought is always in the very back of the mind but is there. I still race motocross and will do the small jumps but i don't care for the huge stuff anymore, i have turned to racing hare scrambles and enduro's now!
Next time you are in florida you gotta find one of those swings where they pull yo up 100ft. in the air and you pull the cord and swing like a mofo!! that is some scary height fun! I had to take a xanax before i could do it! <--- true story!

I'm not trying to be better than anyone, I am just trying to be better than who I was yesterday.
TweetIt is the fear of falling for me, I can climb rock, ladders, and whatever but man do I get all fluttery when im really near an edge and looking down. In climbing we have a saying that "anything over fifty feet off the deck and it doesn't matter anymore".

TweetMan, that guy got killed last night at that Ranger baseball game falling 20 feet after josh hamilton tossed him a ball. He was there with his son. Tragic. 20 feet is not even that high. Man, I bet Josh Hamilton is feeling horrible. He tried to do something nice and toss a ball to a fan and the guy dies trying to catch the ball.
TweetI heard that this morning. That is horrible!

Tweeti have an extreme fear of heights...but i've jumped from a plane not once but 3 times, have rapelled backwards, face first and the Austrailian crawl, climbed 3/4 ways up a high tension tower on a dare as a kid...but put me on a roof, which is what i did in the summers during high school, and i'm frozen.even a garage roof.i don't get it.maybe it's the adrenaline rush...?
