I used to use them (hooks actually) , then decided to ditch them. My grip strength has improved greatly. If I get to the point where I can't grip my deadlift anymore, I may add them back in. Loving training without them so far! And no more callouses where they dug into my wrists:-)

i didnt, working hard to make my grip stronger helped me get stronger over all when power lifting!

I always just used them for deads, but this last year I use straps for most if my back workout and I've taken my back to new heights for me. Training to true failure, not what you perceive as failure but your last rep (without assistance) can be had if your grip doesn't give out. There's plenty of other crap your grip gets worked like carrying dumbbells on chest day or racking weights.
I think soon I will be switching to versa grips which most the pros use these days...

I used them for one reason only - my back got so insanely big that the amount of weight I was using for lat pulldowns was off the charts. thing about fingers is: no matter who strong the rest of you get, you fingers dont change and they have got to handle the weights. I couldn't have done the pulldowns without the straps.
