  • Merry Christmas.

I know I'm a little early but I'm not going to be online much for a few days. My son got what we thought was pink eye Sunday into Monday and when he went to the docs they rushed him to er and he was admitted with orbital cellulitis. We lucked out and it was only on the front of his eye and hasn't traveled to the back where it could so some real damage and required surgery. We will be doing IV antibiotics from Monday till Friday. The first day was rough as hell with blood draws, cat scans and the IV setup. By the end of last night though he began to make leave with not coming home and started slowly being himself again after being very lethargic After fighting with the staff for all the poking and prodding. I have broken down many times in the last 36hrs. I have also thought about some bickering and bitterness I had with my brother in the recent months and it was suddenly very stupid. He came to visit my son last night and he broke down too. At that time Vincent(my son) was not himself yet. Part of me feels bad for being so upset because they are people with children who are dying and my son just has an eye infection but until they confirmed what it was we really had no idea how bad it was. And to hear his screams as they drew the blood and set up the IV absolutely killed me. I was out pacing the halls, arms crossed and scratching my rib cage(weird nervous habit I have is to pick or scratch at something) and crying my eyes out.

He has shown quite an improvement in 24hrs. The docs said he is ahead of schedule but it's still likely to be Friday for discharge. My mom brought a tree to the hospital and we decorated it tonight. The nurses brought him a transformer when they came for the second round of bloodwork today.

I came home tonight and wrapped preSents and made the cookies for Santa and got carrots for the reindeer. Still need to pack more clothes. It's kinda like the twilight zone. You know what's going on and you are doing what you have to but it isn't feeling totally real.

I want to thank everyone in advance for the love and support. I hope everyone has a safe and merry Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa. This Christmas I was taught that the greatest gifts I have received will be in that hospital room with me in the morning.

Merry Christmas to you and little Vincent, poor baby. In spite of what he has been through he looks happy. It is a VERY trying thing when you have a sick child and you feel so helpless. I am glad to hear he is getting better and please keep us updated.

                      sincerely

                            Re: Merry Christmas.

Thanks everyone. He has really turned back into his old self. He had a roommate last night and most if the day today. The hospital couldn't tell us why she was there for obvious reasons but she told us she had something wrong with her blood. She turned 8yrs old today. When I was home last night I knew I wanted Vincent to give her a birthday gift. When I was making a few stops I saw a Disney princess stuffed animal that I just knew was the perfect gift. When I got back to the room with some more ornaments and the various other things I needed from the store I tried to get vinny to sign the card but she came over and wanted to put ornaments on the tree and wakes about the gift bag with the doll. I told her it was for her because we heard it was her birthday. She helped us decorate the tree and the kids played with vinnys iPad and also colored and just walked around the room a little talking. When her lunch came I helped her get the tray in place over her bed and she asked me to cut her chicken up for her. It felt good to think that we tried to make her stay better.

Vincent's eye failed to improve in our eyes earlier today but this afternoon we have seen more redness go away and the upper lid is almost totally back to normal.
