I don't remember all of the details but the investigators were pointing to things about the note left, splinters or bristles from the mothers paint brushes, their actions, etc... It's been so long since I read about it but there were basically two theories out there. One was that the mother killed her, the other was that the brother killed her and the parents were trying to cover it up.
