Today I met an older retired couple who said they recently moved to Mexico and live on some 60 mile lake just south of Guadulajara. They said it is really fantastic living there and much of it is Americanized. They said "You should move there!" Haha
They were really cool and invited me to come and stay at their house if I ever wanted to check the place out ...Chances would be slim that I would move there in the next 20 years, but hey, who knows...
She said their house by the lake is backed up by mountains. Sounded pretty cool.
Doesnt Mexico have a bunch of crazy bandits who would just raid your home and machine gun your ass?

Certain parts of Mexico is pretty dangerous.. I was there in may and u see check points with cops with machine guns standing there. Mexico is full o poverty so the chance of getting robbed is higher than here. No thanks to living there unless ur on a resort haha

i am sure some parts are much safer than say New Orleans (i love the town but it is dangerous) but i wouldnt bet my life on it. the law and government are so damn corrupt. also an American cannot own property in mexico

americans can absolutely not own land there...the mexican government took my parents condo from them. the way Cage and the retiree's get around that is with 50yr or 100yr leases on the land, but they own the dwelling...but the mexican government can decide to take the land back (hence, you loose the dwelling). if the developers take part in what the governement deems "shady biz practices" they WILL take it!! lease or not....thats what happened to us. fought it for 16yrs....and lost. $25k upfront deposit gone!!
