Tweetor old printer. Remember the printers that used the paper with the holes in the sides?..The paper was perforated, so you could tear the edges with the holes off...ya just set a bundle of paper under it, and it fed up thru the printer. Remember how those printers sound when they started printing? That's how my hard-drive sounds everytime the screen loads. Started about 2 days ago.
I was thinking (old electronic typewriter), but it's those old printers that it sounds just like.
wtf???

TweetIs it making a humming sound?

TweetIve had that happen in the past but my computer worked ok, but sounded like crap for about 5 mintues after I turned it on, it did it for a long time...I dont remember what I did, maybe the computer finally crashed and I tossed it in the trash...Ya, prob make sure important stuff is backed up just in case your machine has a melt down
TweetLol it's probably not a good sign when your hard drive sounds like a dot matrix printer. Better get an external hdd and do a backup.
They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.
Tweetlmao...^that got me laughin, rc.
I tried backing-up on disk, but the damn thing won't write to a cd. It won't even copy an audio cd. (exact copy)
There's no humming aom. Just that old-school printer sound now & then. I've noticed that it only does it for a few minutes. I haven't noticed it since shortly after I started this thread. comes and goes...the sound, that is.
I'm backing everything up on jump-drives/thumb-drive, whatever ya wanna call 'em.
I have been talking about what a damn good computer this has been. The best I've had. I've burnt a-many in my GIS days. pen-base laptops drawing on them. But out of all the desk-tops from job-to-job, and that we've gone through. This has killed the competition. Hopefully it's not near death. Yet at least. Please don't fail me now. Not this week. hah...like there's a good week for your main shit to crash.
TweetYou sure youre not actually using a typewriter? for real though I would google search loud noise when starting my computer....and maybe add in the model/make and Im sure u will get a ton of answers. It may have been downloading some updates or something as it can make weird noises or it may just be something that u can clean (things get clogged up believe it or not). anyway at least it may give u an idea of what u are dealing with, but ya id back stuff up while u still can.
TweetI got the dot matrix printer going strong this morning.lol
I need to see how long it lasts. (the sound)
