On my bike i change the oil off of what the manual says which is much more than 2k i actually believe it is 3-4k. Changing oil to much can actually be bad for a motor soudns funny but it's true. Not only that but it's a pure waste of money. By a high quality oil (ditch yamalube seriously, get some lucas, mobil 1, or amsoil). There are many diesel trucks out there which many believe to be the hardest engine on oil that have put down 100k between changes(yes they change the filter and top it off) and they have had oil samples ran and they come back fantastic.
A friend of mine has an 08 F350 dually and he switched to Amsoil recently. The Amsoil dealer told him to go 12-15,000 miles between changes. Amsoil by the way has very a very strong reputation among those who run it.

lol^ fe. It's a bytch when that happens. Especially when I've written one of my novel replies.lol...

My brother claimed Amsoil to be the best. That's all he'd use in his Mustangs. I think I remember that stuff running about $9/qt. Amsoil does have a great rep.

Like I mentioned earlier. I try to change mine before 5k. I ran over 5k on this last oil change in the truck. I stopped counting because I'm usuallly very disciplined with my oil changes. It was making me sick. But, I ran it over quite a bit. I just changed it 2 weekends ago, and I can tell you that the oil had lost it's viscosity. It was thinner than any oil I'd ever drained. That truck has only had Mobile 1 fully syn. A proven quality engine oil. I don't use the 15K formula because I just think that's mostly a gimmick. I'm sure Mobile 1 is good out to 15K, regardless. I will never run it out like I did, because of the viscosity of the oil when I drained it. 5k is the max for me.

Anyone ever seen the thick sludge build-up inside an engine that's been neglected?
My friend bought a '66 Mustang, just after high-school, for a project. When we broke down the motor, it was amazing at the sludge build-up all over everything! You wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. What I saw when I pulled the intake manifold is burned in my memory. I never want an engine that I own to have anything like that collecting anywhere in it.
Now, who knows what caused such an oil sludge to build-up inside that motor? I just remember thinking, 'the oil must've never got changed...' Then again. The original, or previous owners, probably didn't use Amsoil or Mobile1. That's why, when we purchase pre-owned. That ever-so-important inquiry of "what type of oil has been used?" must be asked. I wouldn't buy something that's ran "whatever the oil place uses."<--(bad answer) The lube-shops use the Pennzoils and Quaker States. I think they're the only ones that use that stuff. I think it begins the sludge build-up effect at 1st normal running temp. And keeps piling up from then on.
