TweetThere is no doubt the economy is struggling but this prediction is a little rediculous. I do think there are some major changes needed. For one, we need to stop thses bailouts at once. The economy will correct itself if the government will stay out. Capitalism will prove itself if so. If companies fail then so be it, let them fail so other better run companies can take the business. That is what would happen. If banks go out of business then the members of those banks will switch to other banks. The same holds true for the auto industry. If the big 3 go out, then the others will sell more cars. Also, there will need to be more dealerships from the other companies, thus providing jobs for some of those who lost theirs. This is the way I see it. By the way, my brother is an economics professor PhD and has been interviewed several times about the struggling economy. He is giving a speech in Atlanta this week on it. I am not saying that he knows what is best, but that we do converse on the subject regularly and I have a good understanding in my opinion of what could work. The great depression was worsened by President Hoover when he raised tariffs. That was a terrible idea. You never raise prices on anything in a time of recession. This is why Obama is finally realizing that raising the taxes on the rich right now would be detrimental. The rich are the ones employing most of the people. Take from them and they will take from the people, meaning lay them off. So basically I feel that the country can correct itself if the government does nothing more than lower taxes, if anything at all. Also, the heads of these struggling companies need to be fired, and some perhaps have charges brought on them. CEOs are for the most part worthless imo. There are some good ones but not many. They are not the people that built theses comapnies, but instead hired on executives that are trusted to run what was already created. You don't hear of any private run companies yelling for bailout help do you? I believe this is because those type of companies are run more efficiently and still have the creator there to oversee things.
