How do you propose a city should pay for roads, shcools, water pipes, cops, jails, firemen, trash dumps, safe food?

How big is your city budget, where and how are they spending the money?

T-Man is exactly right. Clinton gets credit for the shape of the economy he was given when he had nothing to do with it. In all reality it was the plans that Regan implemented that had the economy where it was. Regan even said we wouldn't realize the changes he made for years to come but he was more interested in the long haul.

Clinton was a terrible president in my opinion. He did NOT deal with Al Qaida when he had the chance and failed to recognize the power that they were gaining. All he could do is speak well.

Whoa, the dems were pushing that. It passed in a democratically controlled House and Senate. We can't hang that squarely on Bush. This is what drives me crazy in that we want to hang everything on Bush yet we forget that there are two other branches to this government. Don't get me wrong, Bush has his share of F'ups but Congress has been controlled by the Dems for more than two years now. If they were so worried about the looming financial crisis shy didn't they write new legistlation?

Please take the three minutes to watch this and understand who is at the root of this financial crisis.

fannie and freddie, are the biggest head fake around, 300 mortagage companies went bust before fannie and freddie,

fannie and freddie were leveraged 100-150-1, the facts are is they have the lowest foreclosure rate of any mortage company

my point is folks are focusing on the wrong stuff, that's all

I apologize then. With the republican administration comment it seemed that you, like a lot of people, were trying to blame Bush only. I agree that other mortgage companies were partly to blame but with Fannie and Freddie you had pressure from Congress to make loans. To go along with what I said in the begining of this thread I would like for those in Congress (Frank, Dodd, Waters, etc) to take ownership for their part. Instead they want to blame Bush.

"real world standards" is what more realistic than the standards of individual liberty? How do we define trip's "real world standards"? Once exposed I doubt they are too "real world".

Here you are associating Bush with republicans and thus associating republicans with statism. Essentially punishing the ideology of freedom because Bush is a self-described Republican. Bush's ideology is pro-statism, the same as Obama - just on different issues. Bush is not a conservative and Obama is more like Bush than you are willing to admit. Your going to have to lose this deceptive party affiliation perspective. Both parties have extremely pro-statist individuals and Bush and Obama when graded on that standard are very similar.

You have to put this in context bro. We have enough laws right now where just about anyone could be found criminal of something. These things would have to be phased in, even over a couple of generations maybe but our first goal should be privatizing schools. I think that is one of the biggest problems for America, we put the government in charge of educating our children and Obama is a result of that education.

People don't understand what a huge deal the concept of America was and that it was found on a very consistent ideology of individual freedom but how is a government school suppose to accurately educate our children on the founding of our country and the ideology behind it when our own government has went so far off course that most politicians either don't see it or oppose it. I think vouchers would be a good way to phase government out of the education industry.

Safe food? There could be private companies that took the role of the FDA. The companies would have members that paid monthly dues and would have to meet certain criteria to remain a member, in which their membership gave customers confidence in the food service.

Eventually, I would say that there could be debates on whether firemen, cops, roads, city dumps and utility companies could be privatized but we have a long road ahead of us before we are figuring the best ways to do that.
