How do we know Jesus lived a sin free life? You, nor myself, were there 2000 years ago. We can read what is written, and agree he did. But again, the Bible is basically an unauthorized autobiography of Jesus. OUR FAITH as Christians tells us he lived sin free. But what our faith dictates was decided for us in the 6th century by Constantine.
I don't doubt for one second what's in the Bible. What I do doubt is what's left OUT of the Bible. And we will never know. But if you keep an open mind, and read things that have been recently found, carbon dated back to the 3rd and 4th centuries, it makes you think. Which is exactly what I posted in my original thread. "Think about it". Did Jesus live a sin free life? In our Bibles, he did. Except for that incedent where he lost his temper and overturned tables in the market place (Book of Matthew). However, new found writngs, like the Gospel of Thomas, say Jesus was a troubled child. Thomas says Jesus once killed a child in the marketplace for running into him. It says Jesus knew he had these powers, but didn't know what to use them for. And as he got older, after he studied in Tibet from the age of 18-30, he realized he was supposed to use his powers for good.
Again, these are just recently found writings carbon dated back to the early centuries. I'm not saying these were written by Thomas, or Mary Magdeline, etc... I'm not even saying they hold any proven validity. But they were written at the same time as some scriptures. And they just MIGHT hold some validity. Again, Keep an open mind. I'm not claiming validity to any of the newer found writings. Dead seas scrolls included. But I have an open mind that maybe these were unfounded legitimate writings from many years ago.
Closed minded Christians are no different than a David Koresch cult. Let's just put on our black Nike's and take Phenabarbitol and wait for the Lord to pick us up on the Comet.

pfft...only a redneck could find a way to compair bill clinton and jesus!!! your killing me smalls!!!

dosnt matter in my opinion...it's the message he represented and the length's he went to in order to convey that message. i dont think anything written in the bible is verbatim...it's all an example of how we should live. i know it's passed off as FACT, but it leave's plenty of room for interpitation..

Yup. It's the overall message, what he taught and getting the "big picture" that really matters imo. People debate over all these little details and everyone has an opinion but the fact remains it's ALL speculation. None of us were there and although I've read the Gnostic texts and much of the Dead Sea Scrolls, you cannot be sure that ANY of it is absolutely accurate. We are left with simple faith in who he was/is and that's about it.

Cool thanks. I asked my pastor about the other books not in the Bible and he says yes, there are many books that didn't make it into the Bible. He said there was a time I think he said 70 A.D. where Israel was basically burned down and a lot of "gospels" were lost in the fires. He said there were some that were recovered in deep caves where people hid the texts. But he said ultimately God is God. He reveals to us what he wants us to know. If he wanted the Bible the way it is now, without all of the other writings, then let his will be done.

If you question the intentions of the men involved in choosing the texts for the Bible, why not take it a step further and question the men who wrote the texts in the first place - considering the authors are asking their readers to believe some pretty outlandish stories.

Your searching for the true character of Jesus. You look outside of the Bible because you doubt the authority of the Bible because of how it came into existence but yet you still do not doubt the premise - that there is a god, he created the universe and humanity and then sent himself to die for the sins of humanity. Why? You will never be able to understand a character that is built on a premise of fable.

The way I see Christianity at it's birth and infancy, is that it was similar to today's "New Age". Anyone that could write and was fascinated about the concept of spirituality, wrote about their beliefs and applied them to what knowledge they had e.g., the Essenes, the writings of Abraham, the Zoroastrians, etc. Just as many of the New Agers have taken our knowledge of science and intertwined it with mysticism, "spirituality" and sometimes even extra-terrestrials. Like the New Agers, "Christians" had a wide array of written texts to influence their beliefs but church's ultimately formed the official doctrine. Several hundred years from now most the New Agers texts will be lost but maybe there will still be a following (a church) that is dedicated only to a few authors like Walter Russell or Sylvia Brown.

Feel free to respond but my response is primarily rhetorical.
