TweetNo, what I'm saying is the law is to show us that we sin. We can't become rightous by keeping it, because we'll fail, we don't live by faith and keeping the law that's works of rightousness.Originally Posted by edvedr

"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
Galatians 3:19-26
"What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus."

TweetPaul wrote this speaking of the law and those that have faith or believe.

Tweetsorry johnny but i am yet to read the bible and my religous past is not much....quotes pulled from the bible pretty much go over my head
Tweetu say your sin....i'm assuming u mean all my sins in general....not one in specific....but no i have not....in order to repent u have to believe no? i pretty much am not sure what i believe
TweetSin has taken on lots of meanings now a days, but the original meaning was simply missing the mark. the mark is being perfect like God. None of us hit that mark. That's what separates Christianity from all other religions, true Christianity is God doing the work for man to be saved from judgment. Religion is man working for God to earn his way to perfection, which is a problem because God's perfect always, we can only try to become perfect at one point leaving all of our imperfection still with us.
here are the 10 commandments
Exodus 20:3-17
"You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."
These are the outward working of the law, Jesus gives the inward or spiritual part of the law and says the law is forever.
Matthew 5:17-48
"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment. 'But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.
"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.'But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. "Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.'But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord. 'But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
As you can see we are all in danger of judgment, but God doesn't want us to be judged or perish.
John 3:16-21
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."
I hope these help you Bro

Tweet"There was also a number of studies showing the severe unaccuracy of carbon dating. There was one story of a dig in the mid west where some group bought a bunch of land form a farmer. They came acroos what they said were the reamins of a 30,000 year old pig."
"Archeologists dig up fossils of creature 4 within 2 miles of fossils of creature 2 and both read the same carbon dating. Hmmmm"
I can only assume that he also gets the age of these fossils from carbon dating. Then it would seem that there is great fault in carbon dating and the two above quotes just shows how evident that is. Therefore, hows does he know how old or what period in the stages of evolution that those fossils actually come from to prove his own facts??HMMMMMM
TweetI am a beliver in God but I also study and own a lot of animals and you can trace how they have evolved over time to adapt to our world. So who is to say that we as humans have not evolved and adapted just the same?
Happiness is a mental decision, often a challenge of huge magnitude but still no more and no less than a choice one makes each day. Time will pass and end for one and all, it's the things we think and do that will define us. The day unfolds before you, what will you write upon it's pages?- Chris Rice 08/2007
TweetThe Bible says. Sure, we have evolved in technology and intellegence but we are still the exact same species as Adam and Eve were.
TweetJohnny B - I believe Edvedr is asking for an explanation of the bible verses NOT more verses. Can you put what you wrote into "layman's" terms so that people can find relevance and relatability to today's world.

I think the problem today is everyone trys to over spiritualize the Bible and make it say things it doesn't say. There are no hidden meanings in the Bible, you may need to get a better understanding of Jewish culture back then to understand certain thing but I didn't bring any of those up.
If I didn't understand you help me out here.

TweetI agree with Jonny. People are always saying "that's not what I got from it" or "that's not how I interpret it", well then someone missed the message. If I read a passage and it tells me one thing and say Jonny reads it and it tells him another thing, then one of us has misinterpreted it. God meant for each and every passage to have only one translation. If I have one understanding and Jonny has another then one, if not both, of us are wrong. God wouldn't tell me one thing and Jonny a different thing and then hold us equally accountable. That goes against everything he stands for. The only people who get the wrong interpretation are those who misinterpret the Bible. I'm not saying my translations are right and anyone elses is wrong. But the Pastor who is teaching me Romans right now is making sure I learn to understand each and every verse by doing my research. I do sentence diagraming on every verse to break it down and get the true meaning of it. Short of being able to read and speak Greek I feel that is the best way to really learn scripture. But it's a long long process. We have been in Romans for over 10 months and we are only in Chapter 8. That's a deep study and I can say I honestly feel I have a good understanding of the first 7 chapters of Romans without question.
